Ed Eggers (B.S., agricultural business, ’78) is receiving the College of Agricultural Sciences College Honor Award at the 2026 Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony today. Ed is recognized for his entrepreneurial leadership, global impact, and commitment to service. After earning his bachelor’s degree in agricultural business in 1978, Eggers spent two decades with DEKALB Genetics, eventually overseeing international operations in more than 50 countries. He later co-owned Sunfield Seeds alongside his wife, Vicki, and built it into a global leader in hybrid sunflower seed production.

Since returning to Colorado, Eggers has strengthened his ties to @coloradostateuniversity through philanthropy, industry engagement, and student support, including a scholarship benefiting agricultural sciences students. Congratulations, Ed 🎉

If you want to know who holds up the sky for Colorado State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences, here they are.

Our five department heads—Patrick Doyle, J. Chris Pires, Francesca Peduto Hand, Noa Roman-Muniz, and Hayley Chouinard—lead with courage, wisdom, humor, generosity, and an extraordinary commitment to their people. They carry enormous responsibility, solve the problems no one else sees, and somehow keep moving their departments—and our entire college—forward.

I could not be more grateful for them. They are simply the best, and seeing them arm in arm on Ag Day captures exactly who they are: five remarkable leaders, standing together.

Thank you, Patrick, Chris, Francesca, Noa, Francesca, and Hayley. You truly do hold up the sky.

The weather held out, and the 45th annual @nutrienltd Ag Day BBQ was one for the books 🧡

Thank you to the producers, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and attendees who helped celebrate Colorado agriculture. From delicious barbecue to a sea of pumpkin orange, Ag Day continues to honor @coloradostateuniversity's agricultural roots and Colorado’s rich agricultural heritage.

Now let's go Rams! 🐏 🧡 🏈 🍗

In Colorado, some groundwater conservation programs pay farmers to stop irrigating land to save water - but what does that mean for local economies?

Innocent Vomitadyo, a doctoral candidate in Agricultural and Resource Economics and one of our Summer Thesis/Dissertation Fellows, studied the economic impact of retiring irrigated land in Colorado’s Republican River Basin.

This work will help inform policymakers about water conservation while considering impacts on communities and economies. You can read his findings when his dissertation is published later this year. CSU Summer Thesis/Dissertation Fellow Innocent Vomitadyo

Our members had a great time at the CLA Annual Meeting! They had the opportunity to learn about the growing concern surrounding New World screwworm and the potential impacts it could have on the livestock industry. They also heard valuable insights on the 2026 market outlook and what producers can expect in the coming year.

A huge thank you to Merck for their generous support and donations that made it possible for us to attend this event. And Travis and Brittany for working hard to give us these amazing opportunities! We are incredibly grateful for your investment in the next generation of agricultural leaders!

Austen McCue graduates this weekend with a B.S in livestock business management – part of the first cohort of LBM students to graduate from the program. As a fourth-generation cow-calf producer from Colorado’s Eastern Plains, Austen joined the program to gain a greater understanding of the beef industry.

Austen received the 2026 Charles N. Shepardson Student Leadership Award for his work connecting students to the livestock industry and community-building through his roles with @coloffa, @Agfutureamerica, @csuagnext, Collegiate Farm Bureau, and the CAS Student Success Team. He also co-founded the Livestock Leaders Association @csu.lla, which provides students with opportunities for engagement, professional development, and industry connections.

What’s next for Austen? The world is his oyster – he's still finalizing his plans for an industry position. But whatever he does, we know he’ll go far!

Congratulations to Austen and to all our graduating AgRams - we can’t wait to see all of the places you’ll go!
