A truly memorable week spending quality time with friends and superstars of the orchid world at the @woc_2026 at @messedresden in Germany. I wasn’t photographing in an official capacity, but just couldn’t resist!

Sometimes it takes a moment to grasp what just happened.
My Zygopetalum hybrid – four months of work, countless glazes, months of observing the living plant – was not only selected for the exhibition at the World Orchid Conference in Dresden. It was awarded the Certificate of Merit, 3rd place for Plant Identification.
My very first offline exhibition. My first international award.
The jury consisted of orchid specialists from the German Orchid Society and the World Orchid Conference – people who know Zygopetalum inside and out. That they recognized the botanical accuracy of my work means everything to me.
I stood on the same stage as established artists whose work I have admired for years. It feels surreal – and at the same time like confirmation that all the hours at the painting table, all the doubts, all the patience were worth it.
Thank you to everyone who has accompanied and encouraged me on this journey. This is just the beginning.
Zygopetalum Hybrid • Watercolor on Hahnemühle Leonardo 600 gr, 30×40, 2025. Huge thanks to @vbk_deutschland @woc_2026 @deutsche_orchideengesellschaft for making this happen.

Each tiny dot holds a world of color — waiting to be awakened with just a drop of water.
Some pigments whisper, others reveal their story instantly.
I test them all with curiosity: their transparency, granulation, and how they settle on the paper.
Not every hue will find a place in my palette, but each one teaches me something about light and depth. And I just fell in love in PY129, so stay tuned for a fresh page in my pigment journal!

You asked… and here it is! ✨ Each page reflects a methodical approach, a touch of science, and a lot of care. Scroll through the first slides for tips, and the last one reveals the full, structured layout. Questions? ☺️
P.S. you can take any square synthetic brush for the swatches, but you don’t have to. Choose what suits you ☺️

Not every color screams. Some whisper — and still change everything.
PBr25 is one of those quiet pigments: earthy at first glance, yet capable of transforming into deep greys, luminous pinks, and reds that feel timeless, almost out of this world.

Exploring pigments like this reminds me why discipline in art matters: it’s not only about repetition, but about curiosity. The more I return to a single pigment, the more it reveals — and the more I grow as an artist.

What seems simple at first can hold entire worlds if we only stay long enough to see them.

I found it! My perfect yellow. Here is why: it is not so neon-looking as py3, and lightfast. It gives me beautiful fresh greens with pb60 and pb29. It is very stable in mixes and predictable. From the very first swatch of the color I knew, that my yellow group is done for now :) And look at these oranges!
Do you have this pigment on your palette?

@danielsmithartistsmaterials it is my kind of your monday mixes :)
