THE SHATTERED FORTRESS PT 10

In this scene I had the idea of @darinagdm posing where Courtney posed at the Ash Smith workshop 2.5 years ago. Also had the idea of Daria posing outside Metro Theatre. The idea is to convey heading out to check out a prestigious concert.

Daria walking down the stairs and looking down symbolises “I once thought it better to be right” whereas the mid shot of Daria symbolises “But now I have finally seen the light”. The full body shots of Daria with the front of Metro Theatre symbolises “Sometimes you've got to be wrong and learn from mistakes”. This line really resonates with me as I’ve made mistakes in my work eg not enough lighting, framing is a bit off and/or I edit too little / too much. Yet at the same time it has taught me to embrace perfections as out of 100s of shots, there will be a select few which is really decent enough to edit / framing wise.

Daria looking down outside of Metro Theatre symbolises “I live with serenity now; not self-righteous hate”. This line also resonates with me as it pertains to my being mostly independent with my photography/videography. This part of the music harkens back to Repentance from Systematic Chaos. I was inspired by Repentance for a photoshoot back in late Jan 2025 with a model which you can see in “Portrait 53” in my highlights bio; taking into consideration 4:53 to 5:23 of The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater, these are the results.

THE SHATTERED FORTRESS PT 7

In this scene, I had the idea of @darinagdm posing in the tunnel which leads from main Martin Place to Angel Pl, and the undercover shelter with the LED banners.

On the day of the photoshoot, it was a partly cloudy day with about 25km/h gusts of wind which challenged how to make the best of the day. So we went into the undercover shelter so not only is it feasible for Daria but also so we can capture a variety of backdrops within a variety of places for the 2 hour duration of the photoshoot.

As for the outfit, we did 2 main outfits. The main outfit is the reddish magenta dress whereas she’s in the grey jacket so she stays warm for the photoshoot, considering the windy weather. Daria in the tunnel symbolises “You're smart enough for me to trust; go live your life now”. The shot of Daria from behind symbolises “Just keep these steps in your life; and you'll know how”. Daria in the shelter symbolises “If you're not sure, ask yourself have I done to them” and Daria without her jacket symbolises “As I would have them do to me”.

Taking into consideration 3:43 to 4:11 of The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater, these are the results.

THE SHATTERED FORTRESS PT 4

In this scene, @darinagdm is posing with the mirror from Darling Harbour. This is intentional to convey the lyric “Look in the mirror”. After we took some pics in the pub (which we’ll get to), we made our way to Darling Harbour. Remembering that one time where I saw Jayden Rodrigues perform in Tumbalong Park, luckily I still remember there was a shortcut which leads from Town Hall to Tumbalong Park without having to detour around Darling Harbour. So we utilised the mirror near Tumbalong Park. Taking into consideration 2:47 to 3:01 of The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater, these are the results.

THE SHATTERED FORTRESS PT 2

So I organised this photoshoot with @darinagdm back in mid August after Daria posted on the Sydney Photographers, Videographers, Models & MUAs Facebook group page that she’s available for bookings. I decided to book in Daria once again in late July around the time Verdani had their BVH gig (this is my 3rd time booking her btw)

Again the song I’m inspired for this specific photoshoot and series is The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater. This song I thought of a concept sometime after I first listened to it back in early September 2022 as part of Black Clouds and Silver Linings and then later in mid 2026 as I was restructuring my visual stories personal projects.

We started the photoshoot at the waterfall where I managed to get a couple of pics amidst the noise that the nature made. The next couple of shots are from the rails leading to a car park and a bench facing QVB. I’ve sequenced like this to convey that she’s returning to a place dubbed “Shattered Fortress”, hence the title of this series named after the Dream Theater song.

Taking into consideration 1:30 to 2:19 of The Shattered Fortress by Dream Theater, these are the results.
