Fun Halloween light painting 🎃 session while having a campfire dinner and get together with friends on Mt Pinos. I focused primarily on painting ghosts and skeletons (and one or two fuzzy monsters 😃). It was my first time drawing skeletons, inspired by @dariustwin, I'm pretty content with my first try. Tools used were simple pen flashlights paired with a universal connector and crystal light pens from @lightpaintingbrushes. And for the surroundings I used some funky colored lights. No AI, all hand drawn light paintings 😊. #lightpainting #lightpaintingbrushes #lightpaintingphotography

@dariustwin draws with light, literally.

Working in near darkness, he leaves his camera shutter open and moves a small LED through the air, turning every gesture into a glowing line captured directly in the photograph. Nothing is digitally drawn afterwards.

His fascination with light painting began in 2007, after discovering the famous 1949 photograph of Pablo Picasso drawing a centaur with light. From there, Pearson began experimenting at night with a second-hand camera and a basic tripod, often creating work after finishing his day job as a creative director.

What started with simple figures has since evolved into dinosaurs, angels, skeletons and entire animated sequences built from hundreds, sometimes thousands, of individually photographed light drawings.

Every image exists only for a few seconds in the dark. The camera is what makes it visible.

Painting Imaginary Creatures 💀🐲🎨
What if I told you these creatures were never actually in front of the camera?
Darren Pearson uses long-exposure photography to turn the movement of a light source into skeletons, animals, dinosaurs, and all kinds of characters.
What you’re seeing in the final image is the result of one continuous movement. Pearson draws through the space in front of the camera, while the sensor records the entire path of the light in a single frame.
So these creatures aren’t just made with light, they’re made with time. ✨

It was a trick question - it is art AND a lamp. We made the orange CAMP lights in 2012 when we built the studio apartment at Camp Claxton. We knew they needed a home in the new house, because they’ve always been a part of things. So happy with how this project turned out!!
