We’re always so excited to see Darlyne at our cafe! We love customizing her drinks based on her dietary needs, and of course, having a little chat here and there.

She’s also such an inspiration to everyone around her. From her weight-loss journey to finding her strength and becoming an athlete, it’s been amazing to see how far she’s come. We’re so proud to be a small part of her journey! 🫶🏼

Getting stronger, one workout at a time. 💪🏼🏋🏻‍♀️

Some days are harder than others, but I keep showing up for myself. That’s where the real growth happens. 🩵

A haircut I’ve been waiting a long time for. 🥹✂️

After my surgery in December 2024, I experienced so much hair loss. On March 25, 2025, I cut my hair because it was so long. Then, a few months later, the hair loss really started, I felt like I was balding.

It took about seven months before I started seeing my hair grow back and those little baby hairs coming in. 🥹

Today, I finally felt comfortable enough to get a cut and colour again. 🤎

It might seem like just a haircut, but for me, it means a lot. I remember how different my hair felt during that time, so being able to sit in that chair today and actually feel good about cutting it again feels pretty special.

And now… we stop, drop, roll, and reveal the new hair. 😂✂️🤎

2024 ➡️ 2026 🥹
~260 lbs ➡️ 145 lbs

This reel means so much more to me than just being able to do a proper wall ball.

When I started my HYROX journey, I couldn’t squat low enough because my calves and quads were so tight. Even as I got stronger and started lifting heavier, my wall balls still weren’t where I wanted them to be.

Personal training, HYROX classes, strength training, mobility work and lots of constructive feedback helped me get here. My RNY surgery in December 2024 was an important tool in my journey, but it was just that… a tool. I still had to put in the work, and honestly, it hasn’t always been easy.

That voiceover really hit home for me. The rejection, repetition, feedback, failing, looking stupid and continuing even when it isn’t convenient. I’ve experienced all of it. I’m still working on my wall ball technique, but now I can finally squat to 90° and do a rep that would count in competition. 🥹

To everyone who has encouraged me, coached me, trained me, corrected me and pushed me along the way, THANK YOU. ❤️ I genuinely wouldn’t be where I am without you.

People sometimes think I’m sacrificing so much or that this lifestyle is torture, but these aren’t sacrifices anymore. They’re habits. Habits that have given me physical strength, mental strength, confidence and a healthier version of myself.

For years, I put everyone else first and myself last. Some people may think choosing myself is selfish, but how am I supposed to take care of everyone else if I don’t take care of myself first?

I spent years putting myself last. Look where putting myself first has gotten me. ❤️

The next opponent is you.

November 2024, two weeks before surgery, I was doing my pre-op diet, sitting there with my shake, raising my cup to the camera and cheering to the future me. I had no idea what that future would actually look like, but I knew I wanted it to be different. I had been told I was diabetic in November 2023, at only 39 years old, and was given a chance to change my path before things got worse. I had other health issues, I was fighting my own demons mentally, and even though I smiled and showed up for everyone every day, deep down I knew I wasn’t okay. I chose surgery because I wanted to live longer. I wanted to live healthier. I wanted a different life.

Fast forward to August 2026, and I’m looking at a version of myself I couldn’t have imagined back then. Yes, my body has changed, but so much more has changed on the inside. If I had never made that decision, I honestly don’t know where I’d be today. I don’t regret choosing this path. My life now is pretty simple: work, the gym, my family, and the people I’m grateful to have in my life. This is where I am now, and I’m choosing to move forward.

I’m still a work in progress. Some things have changed, some things haven’t, and maybe I’m moving slower than I’d like. But I’ll keep doing my best. And if I fall or fail, I’ll get back up and try again. No matter how hard it gets. That promise is to myself. ❤️ Me vs. me.

I lost the weight, but I gained so much more.

260 lbs (118 kg) in 2022 to 150 lbs (68 kg) today. The crazy part is, I’m still 150 lbs (68 kg) from January, but I look and feel completely different now. More muscle, less inches, and a whole lot stronger. I’m pulling and pushing 220 lbs (100 kg) sleds and carrying 70 lbs (32 kg) like… who even am I?! 😂 I started this journey wanting to lose weight, and somewhere along the way, I fell in love with getting stronger. And I’m not stopping anytime soon. 💪🏼🔥

123 kg → 68 kg

Becoming a better version of myself.

But the real transformation didn’t happen in surgery. I’m 19 months post-op, and I’ll always say this: surgery was the tool. The hard work was me. The early part of this journey was about learning how to eat differently, but somewhere along the way, this became so much bigger than weight loss.

Now I’m running, doing HYROX training, strength training, lifting weights, and pushing myself to see what I’m capable of. I didn’t just lose weight. I built a completely different life. And I’m still becoming. 🔥

I gave up a lot to become the person I am today.

July Recap: Health & Wellness Edition 🫶

I’m 19 months post-op, and this journey still isn’t easy. This month I switched from the U of M gym to GoodLife and started taking advantage of the pool, recovery room, classes and HYROX.

What I didn’t expect was how much fitness would become part of my social life too. Whether it’s running, taking a class or just working out with people, I’ve met new people, reconnected with others and honestly had a lot of fun along the way.

I’m also learning how to train tired while still being kind to my body. I’m a pusher 😂, but I’m learning that rest is part of training too.

I’m at my ideal weight, and if I gain a little because I’m building muscle, that’s okay. I chose this path because I want to live longer, get stronger and prove to myself that I can accomplish things I never thought I could.

You can call it a midlife crisis 😂, but is it really torture when I feel this good afterward?

There will always be naysayers and people who choose to step away, and that’s okay. It’s about perspective, respecting boundaries and knowing when to be quiet and when to be loud.

I’m excited for the rest of the year and whatever comes next.

And to anyone who thinks they can stand in my way…

Watch out. 👀
