Since 2001, successive Governments have handed €407 million of public money to the inhumane and unpopular greyhound industry. Next year, greyhound racing will receive over €20 million from the state, up half a million from 2026.

This funding is far and away more than what is being given to the League of Ireland, which has to fight for scraps while GRI is guaranteed a mountain of cash every year in perpetuity.

Over 1.1 million people attended League of Ireland matches last year. Greyhound meets attracted only ⅓ of that number, and yet the Government barely has an interest in investing in Irish football.

It seems very clear to me that it’s simply a case of greyhound lobbyists having Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil by the neck and this industry holding undue influence over public policy.

🇮🇪🕊️ It is extremely concerning that the Government is dead set on dismantling the Triple Lock, and it is similarly worrying that the Government has been so set on misrepresenting the Triple Lock and its role in our neutrality.

Removing the Triple Lock will be a monumental change in Ireland’s foreign policy and the Government should stop trying to brush over its ramifications.
