As I’ve always said, different disciplines inspire others. It’s a strong argument for artists to avoid siloing themselves from those who create in other mediums. As a writer who can’t even draw an accurate circle with a compass, I’ve always been inspired by all kinds of fine art and the people who create it. So I look forward each summer to Third Street Writers’ annual collaboration with artists exhibiting at Laguna Beach’s Festival of Arts (FOA). Every year, we writers roam the FOA grounds in search of artwork that inspires us, then write and submit a piece to be considered for inclusion in an annual edition of Art Inscribed. We hold a reading of all the included work that features projections of the art that inspired it. We sell copies of the book to support the Festival of Arts Artists’ Fund. Part of the joy of this project is recognizing the genius of artists working in different mediums by creating work that honors it. An even bigger part is making friendships across art borders. Art is often defined so narrowly that it discourages collaboration and experimentation. I applaud Third Street Writers for this project that makes collaboration possible. Third Street’s board member Jennifer Griffiths’ always creates a beautiful book cover! Brava to all: writers, artists and volunteers, who make this project blossom🌼!

Note: This 2026 printing sold out, so if you want to order a book, please contact Third Street Writers before we place a second order.
