You are very Richmond if you can name the exact location of that Sev behind Trey just from the picture…..only people with very serious game will know this. Also- you are very Richmond if you would never pay to see Phish but you would slap a third mortgage on your house to see Dave Matthews. But you don’t have to because you are very good friends with his [insert: money manager, lawyer, lawn guy, etc…] anyway. It occurs to me that one day around the latter part of the 21st-century when the Phish say they’re not ever going to play another live show and we passed up this opportunity….we will be bummed. But we’re still not going inside because we might need to beat a hasty retreat out of that scene. Who is in? We’re going to ride bikes down there to the knoll…. Watch like proper hobos….set up a hibachi, play some backgammon hack some hackeysacks and maybe string up a hammock. This is going to be a great night on the banks of the James….(hint: the aforementioned Sev in the picture? Not far from the venue. Free falafel and 1 import for the first person to identify correctly)

@darthsadr hit me up to share some reflections and media. I really enjoyed hearing about his experience and thought that others here might also resonate with it.

Here’s what he had to say:
“Had the most insane seats on the first night of the final weekend. Section 210 Row 1. In front of us was a 30 ft. drop. My buddy and I dubbed it the “seating section” because you could sit and watch with a 100 unobstructed view. EVERYBODY was sitting and watching enjoying the haptics. Phenomenal.
This moment was SO special. Thought I’d share my perspective…. (Slide 1, the ending to Squirming Coil)

My buddies and I kept saying how this was “beyond” the usual concert and or Phish experience. Phish (I’m biased) have MASTERED that venue…literally utilizing it as a blank canvas and quite frankly changing the “concert going experience”. It’s so hard to articulate unless you were there. Phish just threw down something seriously insane and ephemeral.
That was truly art. High art at its HIGHEST form. SO fantastic.”

We couldn’t agree more. Thanks @darthsadr , for not only contributing to this account, but also our Phish community in general.

I was fortunate to attend a winemaker dinner at Divino highlighting the wines of Edi Simcic. On hand was Jure Simcic (pics 8,11,20). He’s the third generation winemaker for his family’s winery.

Besides being a wealth of knowledge, Jure is quite humble when he speaks of his experiences making wine.

Each wine sampled was extraordinary. From the crisp and clean whites to the bold yet subtle reds, the wines were balanced, focused, and sublime.

The food pairings were on point! Each course was crafted to meet the wine being showcased. It was an impressive experience!

I hope you have an opportunity to try wines from Edi Simcic. They are that good!

Cheers

This #ThrowbackThursday vertical features sibling rivalry taken to the next level. A ruthless sister who is willing to do whatever it takes to get to the top vs a sister who doesn’t realize the power she really has…

Silver Claw rules state that once the current alphas die, their children will have to fight each other to become the leader of the pack. Unfortunately for Lilith, that comes sooner than expected when her sister Serena does the unthinkable. Lilith escapes with her life and sets out as a rogue - and runs into Tristan, alpha of the rival Starlight pack. Concealing her true identity, she accepts his offer of refuge. A sweet romance blossoms between these two kind-hearted souls, but when the truth is revealed and the battle to reclaim her pack arises, will all be lost?

With standout performances, a unique script, kickass stunts, and truly cinematic visual storytelling (save for some basic werewolf CGI but hey, it was early 2024!), this is one not to be missed!

Happy Friday-Eve, Instapeeps! Here's another TBT to the jungle of Belize in Central America. Doing some baby prep for the big, brutal, bloody, most violent sequence I've ever done for a movie in 40 years of filmmaking. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! Thank you, @matthew.mungle for the babies, and @tinsleymua for amazing 3D transfers.

If you want to see it, the film is called The Enemy God (Yai Wanonabalewa). https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226263/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt

Kaya Hamilton Terrell, my very very best friend, confidant and gentle protector, a lover to all children and a terror to all squirrels, left this world in peace and surrounded by so much love on February 4th. After surviving 3 cellular carcinoma tumors which resulted in a brutal surgery two years ago, alas it was a combination of an ugly UTI, the development of chronic kidney disease, and onset of sudden diabetes, that took my sweet boy just 10 days prior to his 13th birthday, which is today, coincidentally a day that the entire world celebrates the love we have to give and receive. 💕

I’m so grateful for all the love he gave me, to have both received it and watched how effortlessly he gave it away in total abundance. He is my inspiration for how to be a good, loving and compassionate person. He is the source of all the love I have given over these last 13 years, and will continue to be each and every day.

Kaya will live on in every lazy Sunday, every stunning sunset, every open field of grass, every jump into a big wave, every fallen palm frond, and every skittish squirrel I see. I will love you until my very last breath, I promise to carry your love with me always, and to find you again, to bring you back in my loving arms where you belong. 💙

Remembering the Livio Felluga/Drago Centro dinner after Gambero Rosso-Tre Bicchieri from earlier this year. 🍷 🇮🇹

Since the legendary restauranteur Piero Selvaggio was great friends with the “Patriarch of Friuli” Livio himself, he was thrilled to see his granddaughter Laura Felluga visiting LA.

Chef Celestino cooked up some very special dishes. Hello Seafood Panna Cotta! And this short rib slayed with the Felluga Sosso. Silky structured earth in this Refosco! 🫶🏼

The Somm Journal just featured an epic Livio Felluga/Drago Centro dinner I hosted the night after Tre Bicchieri in Los Angeles. 🇮🇹 Laura Felluga graciously showcased her Terre Alte 2018, which won White of the Year at the event! 🌟 What a stunner. Savory, complex, acidic, and lush. Fires on all cylinders! 🔥

Drago Centro won best Italian restaurant in LA at the event as well. 🥇🥇

[Greeting the legendary Piero Selvaggio, the man who changed Italian Cuisine in the U.S.🇺🇸🇮🇹🍝🤩]
*
Back in 1970s, Los Angeles and San Francisco led a real revolution in American cuisine. New access to quality ingredients, the arrival from abroad of great chefs and restaurateurs and an increasingly sophisticated restaurant audience that fed as much on food and wine as on glamor has made California a beacon of excellent restaurants and innovative style. There at the beginning was Piero Selvaggio, a Sicilian immigrant, who transformed Italian restaurants from mundane to sublime in his Valentino in Santa Monica, whose influence has been worldwide on the image of Italian cuisine and wine.
*
Today Piero is the managing partner of Drago Centro, the inspired interpretation of contemporary Italian cuisine in Downtown LA, where yesterday we had an amazing dinner paired with @fontanafreddawines Contessa Rosa Riserva #altalanga DOCG 2014 🍾🥂
*
Italian wine producers will be forever grateful to you, dear @piero_selvaggio 🙏🥰
