When I dreamed of creating this space as a little girl sitting on my grandmother’s porch, I knew the arts had the power to change lives. I knew it wasn't just about putting on shows—it was about showing our youth what fortitude looks like, what entrepreneurship looks like, and what happens when you take a chance on yourself.

As WBTV highlighted in this interview, theatre doesn't just teach kids how to shine on stage—it gives them the confidence to shine in the classroom, in leadership, and in life.

As we push forward in our Curtain Call Capital Campaign on the road to October 10th, we need our village behind us. Professional sets, costumes, rehearsal spaces, and performance opportunities require real investment.

If you believe in creating safe spaces where young people find their voice, build character, and experience belonging, stand with us today.

🎯 How to support today:
• $25: Covers 2 performance scripts
• $50: Funds vital stage props
• $100: Provides a full stage costume or cast rehearsal fuel
• $250: Sponsors an entire evening of rehearsal space

MOTHER OF LIGHT RAIL STABBING SUSPECT SPEAKS: just over a year after the seemingly random stabbing of Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte’s light rail, @wbtv_news sits down with the mother of the suspect, DeCarlos Brown Jr.

Michelle Dewitt says she prays for Zarutska’s family daily, and tells our Dedrick Russell when she started noticing changes in Brown.

Brown faces both state and federal charges in the attack, that caught international attention. A judge ruled him incompetent to stand trial for now, as he undergoes treatment to restore competency in order to stand trial.

Part of being in any community is being a positive influence on others in it. Recently, MyOutdoorJoy joined the 1 Million Kids outdoor alliance and hosted an introductory SCUBA class for kids ages 11 to 17. It was a great time, and moving forward, MyOutdoorJoy will create private events focused on kids, showcasing alternative careers, hobbies, and long-term recreational activities they can join. These events will be by request only, so if you work with kids, give us a call. We are not a summer camp, but one of our goals is to be an active participant in the Sierra Club alliance and the Charlotte area #rolemodels #mentor #community #charlotte

The Charlotte City Council on Monday named the new interim mayor to replace longstanding Mayor Vi Lyles.

Robert Harrington, the president of the North Carolina Bar Association, was chosen by the city council on June 22 to be the next mayor of Charlotte.

Harrington will serve the remainder of Lyles’ term, starting July 1.

Lyles was reelected to the office for her fifth term in November 2025. She announced her resignation in early May.

Now-Interim Mayor Harrison has not served as an elected official, he told the city council during a 30-minute interview the week prior. He did say that he has served in positions that deal with the public, the city, city council and the county.
