The two weeks I spent in Athens with @futuredocsnow still feel like a dream. I experienced what it’s like to be a physician up close. In eight different specialties, I spoke with doctors about their daily work, observed patient care, and saw a wide range of treatments, procedures, and diagnostic tests. As a student, it’s so difficult to gain experience in medicine, even though it’s crucial, making this experience so special. One of my favorite parts was observing surgeries like open-heart procedures and a laparoscopic hysterectomy. However, the most impactful part was speaking to physicians who have years of experience. One quote that really struck me was “When you enter a patient’s room, you are not a human. You are a doctor. You have no personal problems or emotions. You must ignore everything in your life and put yourself in your patients’ shoes to understand exactly what they are going through. Medicine isn’t a career; it’s a calling that requires empathy.” There are countless other quotes I could share, but overall I learned that you can diagnose every patient perfectly and know everything in the books. That makes you a doctor. However, if you treat patients with empathy and compassion, you will be a good doctor. This entire experience has changed my life and taught me so much. I will always be so thankful!

Greece part 2🇬🇷 FutureDocs Abroad also allowed me to learn more about the Greek culture and to meet with some of the best human beings ever! I am very thankful to have been able to make life-long connections with these incredible individuals!

Greece part 1☀️ I am beyond grateful to have spent the last 2 weeks immersing myself in medicine, meeting with some impeccable doctors, and learning more about what makes a great doctor. From this experience I’ve learned the importance of empathy, compassion, sacrifice, and the establishment of trust between a patient and a doctor. I can’t wait to move forward with my journey into medicine taking these lessons with me. Thank you FutureDocs Abroad!

Greece has been a dream✨

These past few weeks have brought me so close to some of the kindest people as I explored this beautiful country. In between rotations, we got to experience the Acropolis, the downtown square, and all the amazing food. I am so incredibly grateful for everyone who made this experience possible and so special! To my OG family, I love you guys, specifically the OG 5🫶 Thank you for making this experience UNFORGETTABLE!!
My amazing chaperone Zoe, thank you for making these two weeks so special! I seriously can’t thank you enough for all the love and support you showed me!

My trip to Athens, Greece is almost over. At first it was a STRUGGLE!! Missing my friends and family, wishing and hoping for some familiarity. Boy am I glad that never came. I am blessed to say I met some of the best people on this trip. Darya my roommate dealing with my endless talk about my bf and our late night talks. Paige helping me stop being so apologetic. Katie pushing me realize god put me here for a reason and it’s my duty to hear him and work through my struggles instead of falling to them. Perla helping me bring the energy whenever we needed a bust of moral. I could sit here all day and name every little detail I love about these incredible people. Sadly I don’t think I could decide well enough how amazing all these people are. One thing I can 100% try my absolute best to get across is how important every one of these people in chaperone group five or our more formal name- Athens OGs, was in helping me through this journey. It wasn’t easy but they did their best to make it so much better then I could have ever imagined!! I am heartbroken I have to leave them but I am so grateful for the time we had. I love yall don’t forget!!
