It was the braids that stood out on King Julien ES, the winner of the Best Turned Out Horse Award, sponsored by The Clothes Horse, on Tuesday, October 20. Groom Freddie Rodriguez learned from fellow grooms how to create the standout design and made them extra special with rainbow bands for rider Darya Davoudi of Houston, TX.

Owned by Epic Sporthorses LLC, the 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding by Clarcon was imported as a six-year-old by Davoudi’s family while she was still on ponies. Although she was nervous to enter the jumper ring, King Julien has given her the confidence to move from the .85m Jumpers to finishing seventh in this year’s $12,500 WIHS 1.15m Junior Jumper Championship, presented by MARS Equestrian™.

“I was a really scared jumper rider a year ago,” revealed Davoudi, who is 17 years old. “I had no interest in doing the jumpers until him. It’s really special to be here with him; it’s his first year at indoors, and my first year in the jumpers here.”

Rodriguez has worked for the Davoudi family for six years, is King Julien’s full-time groom, and is “like family,” said Davoudi. “He’s the best. I trust him more than anybody. He’s honestly one of my biggest supporters. I think he loves the horses just as much as I do and has so much faith in both of us.” #WIHS | #MARSEquestrian

✨ PNHS is off to an AMAZING start! 🐴🤍

We’ve already had so many incredible horses (and a few pups!) step in front of the camera for Portraits for Charity at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has reserved a session and helped us raise money for the PNHS Foundation. Every session makes a difference, and we are so grateful to everyone who is helping us give back while creating beautiful portraits of the animals you love. ❤️

📸 Haven’t booked your session yet? There’s still time!

For just a $75 donation to the PNHS Foundation, you can reserve your very own white background portrait session for your horse or dog! Your donation secures your session, with portraits available for purchase afterward.

✨ Beautiful portraits. A great cause. A little bit of magic. ✨

🔗 Tap the link in our bio to reserve your session!

We can’t wait to see even more familiar faces (and furry ones!) in front of our camera!
