🎭 EMERGING 2K26 🎭

Still feeling everything from this experience. 💚 I loved being able to use movement in a different way than usual to tell a story, communicate a message, and make people feel something without having to say a word. Being a part of this showcase reminded me why I’ve always loved to DANCE.

@nikki_thecreative 🖤 Le’ choreographerrr, my friend, and somebody I love dearly. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your vision and trusting me to help bring your story and message to life. Thank you for creating something with meaning and giving me the opportunity to express myself through your art. I’m grateful to be a part of something so much bigger than just movement. Love youuuu! 🫶🏾

@darylfoster 🤎 Thank you for your kind words and for seeing me and pushing all of us during that last rehearsal to bring that passion, emotion, and FIRE to the stage. You reignited something in me that has always been there and I’m truly grateful. Thank you for creating this safe space for us dancers @emergingmoves.

And to my friends and all of Nikki’s dancers, it’s been great being around you guys and exchanging all the laughs in our rehearsals. 😝🤟🏾

Get a taste of Michael Brown and his piece, ACTION!

Emerging, to me, means being unapologetically yourself in a world that tries to dim your light. Inspired by F.O.H., this piece is about recognizing who’s truly rooting for you, saying f*ck it, trusting your dopeness, and standing firm in your artistry. It’s about breaking free from others’ expectations, refusing to seek validation, and continuing to create even when others don’t see your vision. Because emerging isn’t about proving yourself; it’s about believing in yourself and knowing that your time will come and you, too, will prosper.

Let's see what Bibby Agbabiaka has been working on with his piece, Green Means Go.

What power does a goal have in the face of exhaustion? This piece is about a chase for something that may or may not exist. A distant light. A fleeting moment. A dream built on lies.

Next up is a sneak peek at Sol Tucker's piece, Genosha.

Genosha explores an imagined paradise- a place created for those who have been labeled different, misunderstood, or treated as outsiders. Inspired by the world of X-Men, the piece reimagines Genosha as a haven for “God’s mutants,” drawing parallels to Black identity, resilience, community, and the desire to exist freely.

Take a look into the mind of Maria Zayas with her work "Fin (Part 1): Baile Inolvidable/Unforgettable Dance".

This is part one of the finale of a much longer piece titled Todo Tiene Su Final/Everything Has It’s End, a work that explores growth and transformation through the feminine Latin perspective. The final section focuses on grief and memory. Healing is not linear, and we find our protagonist once again thinking about the impetus for her transformation: the breakup with the person she thought was the love of her life. Does this version of our protagonist make peace with her past and move forward? Or does she become stuck again? Is joy dependent on your circumstance or is it a choice?

Peer into Nikki Bruner's world with her piece "Black Fatigue".

This piece is a callback to an internet term where other races made videos talking about being fatigued from African American people. During times like these, it’s stressful enough being a U.S. citizen, but African American people have a whole other layer to consider when it comes to just being. The real fatigue lies within African Americans because you constantly have to be aware even when you just want to live.

Take a look at the sleek movement of "Connection-Polarity-Duality" by Fahim Razin El.

This piece reflects and expresses the internal energies of creation- Fahim's visual depiction of the unseen power of manifestation and self-realization.

Up next, have a sneak peak at Rhyan A. Minter's piece, "Dawn".

"Dawn" is the final section of a 3 part work in progress. It is an expression of the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel' and the kinship among Black women holding each other up in the journey toward embracing lasting joy.
