One of my favorite conversations of the year is happening this week.

My friend Daryl Perry is our Summer Camp speaker.

"Doing hard things my way means using fitness as a vehicle to connect people and encourage them to root for each other, while they work to improve how they see themselves inside and out.

Cerebral Palsy gives me the opportunity to stand out in the fitness space in a way few others even try

I used to push my body beyond its limits, then pick up the pieces days, weeks or in some cases months later and repeat the cycle all over again

Last year I reached my limit. I over extended myself to the point where I had a cascade of lower body injuries that made it nearly impossible for me to walk. I managed to slowly heal, recover and rebuild my body over the better part of 6 to 9 months. The hard part was letting go of part of the way I approached being active. For a long time I’ve talked about building a forever active lifestyle but there was still something inside me that was impatient when it came to working with my body and not against it. I honestly think it had a lot to do with the feeling of “being behind”.

Many of us with Cerebral Palsy are diagnosed after we’ve missed mobility benchmarks as babies and toddlers, because we were behind.

As a kid, all the way through much of adulthood I felt like I was behind in a lot of areas.

The hard thing here is trusting myself to figure things out, move them forward and know that my pace “which includes a fair amount of rest” will get me exactly where it is I need to be with what it is I’m building with Your Level Fitness. One area where I was not consistently showing up was in the Cerebral Palsy community. That all changed at the beginning of this year when Chad was telling me about some of his ideas.

The Cerebral Palsy Perspective Podcast allows me to be the Robin to Chad’s Batman in one element of his ever growing vision for Doing Hard Things My Way.

We share stories and our perspectives on getting things accomplished in unconventional ways, while having a realistically optimistic outlook on life.

Chad’s bringing awareness to Cerebral Palsy and building an inclusive fitness community for everyone. I’m privileged to be one of the many faces of courage that are a part of Doing Hard Things My Way".

Choose to believe in yourself…especially when the doubt creeps in.

Be consistent but at a pace you can manage.

Doing less than your absolute max effort gives you the best shot at following through next time. That’s the real name of the game with consistency. Besides, burn out sucks ass.😉

NEVER forget how resilient you actually are!

Look at everything you’ve been through and you’re still showing up. Take some time to celebrate that. Seriously, do it before you scroll past this post.
