What does Juneteenth mean to you?

At our Juneteenth gathering at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, we asked community members to reflect on that question—and their answers reminded us that Juneteenth is more than a date in history.

For some, it means freedom. For others, resilience, remembrance, culture, family, and the ongoing journey toward liberation. Each voice carried a unique perspective, yet together they painted a powerful picture of what Juneteenth represents in our communities today.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared their story, and helped create a space for connection, reflection, and celebration. May we continue to honor the past, build in the present, and create a future rooted in unity and possibility.
