Thought the same thing, too. The association makes sense. 80s and 90s kids would hear this song played in movies with Cheech & Chong and later George Lopez’s hit comedy. Comment below🩵⚡️🩵⚡️.

Low Rider” was written by the band War together with producer Jerry Goldstein.
• It appears on their 1975 album Why Can’t We Be Friends? (released June 16, 1975)
Even though War’s “Low Rider” was released in 1975, it had a major revival in the 1990s, becoming a soundtrack staple and cultural bridge between generations.

📺 Pop Culture Resurgence
• Cheech & Chong’s influence carried into 90s stoner comedies, keeping “Low Rider” relevant.
• It featured in 90s films like:
• Dazed and Confused (1993), symbolizing 70s cool, but reintroduced it to Gen X.
• Friday (1995), connected to LA street and Chicano culture.
• Up in Smoke re-aired constantly on cable, keeping the song alive in pop culture loops.

🧢 90s Urban and West Coast Vibes
• “Low Rider” became shorthand for West Coast style, lowriders, khakis, Chucks, and car club culture, especially in LA’s Chicano and Black communities.
• The George Lopez Show theme (2000s) sealed its connection to that era, but Lopez had referenced the song’s legacy as part of 90s brown pride culture.
