📍dat bánh mì | 8410 SW Nimbus Ave

I've never had a bánh mì place but this would be one.

The staff are super kind and friendly. The sandwich is loaded and they even offer free bin bin rice crackers next to the water station.

I got the grilled pork, which was actually an accident. I meant to get the roasted pork because I didn't think I would like the pate but I didn't mind it too much. I did have to pick off the cilantro but nothing against them for that. The pork was super flavorful and the veggies added a nice citrus and crunch. The bread was also really good, worth ripping the insides of my mouth.

Rating: 8.9/10
will come back if im in the area

If you’re looking for a good bánh mì spot to try, definitely add this one to your list! 🇻🇳🥖

I ordered the Cold Cut (Vietnamese Ham & Pork Roll) / Thịt Nguội and it was absolutely loaded with meat.

The hospitality from owner Dat was above and beyond and made the experience even better. The space is modern, clean, and beautifully designed.

Definitely worth checking out if you’re craving a bánh mì! ❤️

DAT BÁNH MÌ: 8410 SW Nimbus Ave, Beaverton, OR @datbanhmi_

“At first, I love to open a restaurant, right? And I love banh-mi. And then the trip to Vietnam, that’s when it really opened up my mind, my brain is like: ‘Hey, I got to do it. I cannot wait no more. I’m wasting a lot of my time. So let’s do it.’ And especially with my kids, they inspire me. They’re like: ‘You’re gonna follow your dreams.’ So because my kids, mostly, because them pushing me. If it’s just me, I probably just give up a long time ago. But I just wanted to show my kids I’m not going to fail, so I was really inspired to do it.”

We watched Dat and the team prepare the food. Dat turns to me and asked what my ethnicity is. I told him Chinese Cantonese, and he began speaking Cantonese to me. I automatically felt so drawn in and comfortable. Dat shared that he learned Cantonese from his friends and community in Vietnam and that he could see himself living in Hong Kong.

I then asked Dat what his favorite part of running this business was, “I love to talk with customers, cause that’s how I see the culture in Vietnam. That’s how the service is amazing. That’s what I want to bring back. I want my restaurant like a fast food restaurant, but the service like a fine dining restaurant. That’s what I’m trying to do.”

As we sat there from 11 to 12:30 on a Weds afternoon, we saw a steady rush of people come in. Dat and the team greeted every single one of them with a smile. He would recall names and say, “Thank you for coming back!” He would hold open the door for customers to come in and out. Many folks coming in sounded like returning customers, and he gave suggestions to ones who’ve never been in. Even offering a cold-cut sandwich to somebody who never had banh-mi before.

The genuine energy was felt from him and the team. We had two banh mi, ice coffee, and the Bò Né. I’ve yet to visit Vietnam, so I can’t compare what it tastes like there, but with my experience from SF Bay & Oregon, it’s definitely quality and bread baked in house. I 100% will be back. Such a great little tucked away spot. Excited to come back soon! “MM Goy Sai 唔該嗮, Dat!”

s/o to @yvetteciao for forcing me out against my will

Dat is a gem, thank you for letting me interview you and for the peek into the kitchen! He truly loves and cares for all of his customers, so excited for his journey!

Any bánh mì you order is going to be delish (my fav was the cold cut) + I recommend sharing the bò né🙂‍↕️
