Modern Surfing involves numerous Landings situations, so surfers should learn and master how to deal with these Impact Forces.

Landings are not only important for surfing but are also a critical component of Plyometric Training, an essential tool for developing Reactive Strength and Power. If you want to learn how to jump, you should first learn how to land safely.

The ability to Absorb Impact Forces (or to produce Fast Eccentric Strength) is crucial for decelerating the body, maintaining control, and conserving energy for the next motor action or skill.

Moreover, the ability to Decelerate and Control the Body plays an important role in Injury Prevention. However, it’s important to keep in mind certain technical aspects, such as joint range of motion (compression angles), maintaining joint/body alignment, avoiding knee valgus, and developing good hip stability. For all these reasons, Landing Skills should be implemented and developed from a Young Age.

At young ages, Sport Specialization should be delayed until adolescence to reduce the risks associated with early specialization, such as overuse injuries and burnout.

On the other hand, General Preparation helps young athletes develop a variety of movement patterns and skills that may later support them at the elite level when facing complex movement challenges or advanced skills.

Remember ☝🏼: being a champion in youth categories (U-12 to U-18) means very little, because what truly matters in sports happens at the adult level.

Important: Gym Training is not the same as Sport Specialization!
