A little book magic! 📖✨

This past weekend I took an online class with @daveykit to learn how to construct a shutter book—an awesome interactive structure that opens and closes like a camera shutter.

My attempt at the first page was a complete bumble and ended up in the recycle bin. 😂 But once I got the hang of the construction, I was able to make all four pages and the covers—and I’m delighted with how it turned out!

Such a fun structure, and Kit is a fantastic instructor. ❤️

I loved using these beautiful @williammorriscollection papers. The fruit-hat ladies are digital art I picked up from @honeycombprodesign a while back (sadly, no longer available).

I finished this prototype of a cascade book; the "real" one will be slightly larger and will hold images of my late mother’s paintings. Please excuse my fumbling filming technique! #makebooks #bookarts #artistherapy🎨

Explore a playful book structure with circular pages connected by unusual radial hinges that allow them to rotate 360 degrees. The pages extend into a caterpillar-like form and rotate back into a neat stack of circles. You’ll also create a simple hinged case to hold your finished book.

I recently to a workshop from @daveykit to learn to make this darling envelope house book. Took me awhile to get the tiny paintings done. These are so fun, I want to make a little book for ALL the themes!

Ki Davey is a favorite artist of mine- I love her books and she's a. terrific teacher. If you aren't familiar with her work and classes- check her out. https://www.found-object-art.com/
This book I made is from a class she taught- the house shapes that have pockets are from envelopes. She included a template for the envelopes but... I remembered i have an envelope punch board so I used that to make my envelops and my book is a bit larger. As you can see I did a postal theme- I have always loved mail art- I made the tags and put vintage postman illustrations on them- the backs will have quotes about mail. Thanks Kit for another terrific class.
