Wiking Salon is delighted to present The Red Chair, Hoang Anh’s second solo exhibition with the gallery, curated by David Willis, featuring a new series of works on paper.

Expanding on The Outlandish Landscape, the artist reimagines historic Vietnamese stamps by enlarging and subtly altering them with the addition of a painted red plastic chair. This minimal gesture creates a temporal dissonance where past and present quietly converge.

The red chair emerges as a symbol of Vietnamese daily life, resilience, and communal culture, while also evoking the idea of the “third space” — a site of gathering, exchange, and identity beyond home and work.
Blending archival imagery with contemporary intervention, The Red Chair reflects on memory, material culture, and the spirit of community.

𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: David Willis (@david.willis.curator) reviews Jakkai Siributr’s (@jakkai) solo exhibition 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 at Canal Projects (@canalprojectsny). Curated by Amy George, it is the new iteration of the artist’s major show of large-scale textile installations presented at the Whitworth, The University of Manchester, in 2024.

“If The Wizard of Oz promises that repeating the words “there’s no place like home” can magically restore belonging, Jakkai’s exhibition offers a more sobering proposition.”
