Reverse Band Bench Press. _ The reverse band bench press (also referred to as the "lightened" or "future" method) involves attaching bands to the top of the power rack then to the bar so that the bands assist the lift in the bottom (weaker) position. _ This allows for the use of supramaximal loads. This will get you used to handling heavier weights as it conditions the CNS to loads you don't use in the classical bench press. Do not use bands that allow for more than 10-15% over your max, and do not overuse this variation. _ This was always done on max effort day and always for a 1RM. Occasionally we would do these with very light weights and very high reps the day after a heavy session as a form of restoration exercise. _ I liked this particularly for an elite powerlifter I used to coach (pictured here who had a 315 bench at 111lbs bodyweight and 320 at 123lbs bodyweight in single ply and a raw 310 bench at 132lbs) as a reverse band bench press with light bands was always right on target with what he would get in a single ply bench shirt. This made the reverse band press a great "indictator lift" for his contest bench press. _ As Louie Simmons likes to say, some lifts are testers and some are builders. I found the reverse band bench to be a great tester for my powerlifters and a nice max effort variation for my other athletes who were struggling with their bench to get a heavier weight in their hands and help break those plateaus. #extremeperformancetrainingsystems #eptsatl #teamepts #powerlifting #strengthtraining #maxeffort #benchpress #reversebandbench #conjugatemethod #lightenedmethod #trainingtips
