radiant joy.

These past two summers here at Life Teen have been some of the most memorable and fulfilling experiences of my life, yet also some of the most difficult and challenging, each in their own unique way.

This idea of radiant joy and joyful sacrifice has really resonated with me while here at camp. I’ve learned what it means not to separate joy from suffering, but to allow the two to come together in a beautiful way. Mother Teresa famously taught to find joy in the suffering, a concept that at first can seem impossible, until you realize it lies at the very center of our faith.

We see it perfectly with Christ on the Cross. As He is stretched beyond measure, enduring unimaginable suffering, His heart is still overflowing with love. The word that comes to mind is bittersweet: a moment so harsh and bitter, yet somehow so full of love and sweetness at the exact same time.

Truly, even in suffering, there is a joy that only Christ can give, and nothing can take away.

Sanctification.
Freedom.

There are many words I could use to describe this summer, but these three seem to be the ones I return to daily. 13 weeks that have restored my heart, sanctified my soul, and freed me from the burden it is to be a sinner.

There is so much I could say about this summer as a Life Teen missionary, but I’ll keep it short and sweet.

I met some of the greatest people of my life while living in community. True friendships that I never want to end. Capturing the beautiful moments of these teens and my fellow missionaries—and sometimes even getting in front of the camera myself—meant more than anyone could know. Especially to little me who hated getting her picture taken.

And most importantly, thank you, Jesus, for this life, these people, a new place to call home, and this opportunity. 🤍

And to the teens: never stop being your silly, goofy selves. Remember that God loves you. He is around you, surrounding you, and within you. May the Holy Spirit guide you in everything you do and wherever life takes you.
