🦖 Mockbuster (2025) is far more than a documentary about low-budget movies and the company that produces them. It is an inspiring look at a filmmaker chasing a lifelong dream while navigating one of the most demanding production environments imaginable. Anthony Frith’s journey is engaging from start to finish, and his determination to seize an opportunity that may never come again makes him an easy person to support throughout the film. At the same time, the documentary provides fascinating insight into The Asylum’s production methods, business model, and filmmaking philosophy. Watching a feature film come together under a six-day schedule is both stressful and impressive, while the behind-the-scenes access continually reveals new challenges and surprises. Whether you’re a fan of Sharknado, a lover of movies in general, or simply someone who appreciates stories about people pursuing ambitious goals, Mockbuster is well worth your time!

A horrifically good time was had last night at the premiere / afterparty for @theasylumcc’s Insidious Possession. Mad respect to everyone involved for the incredibly quick turnaround on what turned out to be a particularly fun movie. The asylum has been cranking these out for as long as I can remember and I even had a debate a few years back with a friend as to whether or not Titanic II was a real movie, had to show them the disc and all to prove my point and they still didn’t believe it but I have a soft spot for cheesy horror flicks like this and would love more than anything for the opportunity to work on one someday. ✌🏼

A star is born!

On this day in 2018 (in the U.S.), Megalodon tried to sink its chompers into audiences with its very first television broadcast. Directed by James Thomas from a story by Thunder Levin, KoichiPetetsky, Canyon Prince, and Thomas, the SciFi/Horror starred Michael Madsen, Caroline Harris, Ego Mikitas, and others. According to our friends at IMDB, here's the plot summary:

"A military vessel on the search for an unidentified submersible finds themselves face to face with a giant shark, forced to use only what they have on board to defend themselves from the monstrous beast."

My brother-in-law, David(@davidmlatt ), has somehow built an incredible career producing hundreds of films that have become cult classics, because they embrace the impossible, the outrageous, and the ridiculously fun, including the gloriously ridiculous Sharknado franchise.

A normal portrait felt wildly inappropriate to capture the man responsible for that level of cinematic mastery. So naturally… I turned him into the star of his own comic-book cover. Although, if I’m being honest, I may have toned it down a little. 😂🦈
