In early March, Lowcountry Land Trust hosted its annual Longleaf Society Conservation Celebration. Alongside dedicated Longleaf Society members, we celebrated the 2025 conservation successes, totaling 19 transactions that resulted in 2,275 acres protected forever - with 1,118 of those acres slated to become publicly accessible places. The festive evening honored the landowners, project partners, and staff who made it all possible. A picture-perfect day on the Combahee River.

My big, brave friend Amey, her husband, and some wonderful friends hosted a beautiful gathering with the Lowcountry Land Trust. We spent the day surrounded by nature - learning, sharing, and seeing firsthand the remarkable landscapes and wildlife that so many people are working hard to protect.

The David Maybank Warder Foundation is especially close to our hearts, and so was the remarkable young man whose life inspired it. His legacy continues to bring people together to care for this extraordinary planet.

When we know better, we do better.

And the things worth protecting are often the ones that have been here long before us. And with thoughtfulness and care, will be here long after.

Grateful for the people doing the work to protect this beautiful corner of the world.

Nature Note # 39 - With oyster season in full swing, Lowcountry residents are shucking local oysters at oyster roasts across the region. While they are a local favorite, oysters are, more importantly, integral to the health of the Lowcountry’s waterways and overall resilience: filtering water (50 gallons per oyster per day!), providing habitat, and controlling erosion.

In January, after Lowcountry Land Trust’s annual oyster roast, volunteers joined @scdnr for a manufactured wire reef (MWR) build, using recycled oyster shells from the event to ensure they were returned to their essential ecosystem. 23 volunteers constructed 48 MWRs, and each one will recruit 7,000 oysters - that’s a total of 336,000 prospective new oysters filtering 16,800,ooo gallons of water a day to keep our region healthy! #lltnaturenotes

Lowcountry Land Trust is excited to celebrate its incredible accomplishments of 2025 with you, our dedicated community of trustees, donors, volunteers, and champions for conservation. The year saw measurable landscape-scale conservation impact, organizational milestones, and an increased effort to create more public access opportunities to protected land across the Lowcountry, reinforcing the organization’s strength as it enters its 40th year.

Yesterday wasn’t really about yoga… it was really about courage.

My dear friend Amey led a benefit yoga class to support the David Maybank Warder Conservartion Fund created in memory of her beautiful son. She showed up big, she led with unbelievable grace, and she absolutely crushed it.

I am far from a yogi, but I loved being there with her and a room full of people who love her and her family. . . breathing, holding space, and bearing witness to her strength. She is the bravest person I know.

If you feel inclined, please consider this fund in your year-end giving. The world hasn’t figured out a way to make more land, and we desperately need to conserve what we have.

Join Quest and the community of St. John-Holy Trinity Anglican Church for an meaningful discussion centered on men’s mental health.

We’re honored to welcome Chris Singleton, a nationally recognized motivational speaker, who will share his story. Despite all the hardship he has faced, he continues to motivate others by showing what it looks like to move forward with courage and clarity after deep loss.

After Chris’s talk, Luke Shirley, Chairman of Quest, and Rev. David Dubay will lead a panel discussion to explore why men’s mental health matters, how grief impacts all of us, and what we can each do to build a more connected and supportive community.
