The Student Upcycle contest, judged by Manny Jackson of @threadhausco featured students who’s work used innovative techniques in creating up-cycled garments.

Featured Students

Timi Burton @timiburton77
“Re” - “This look contemplates the life cycle of technology in modern society. The idea of “Re:” goes beyond reduce reuse and recycle - it’s a call to action for people to Re:imagine, Re:interpret, Re:create.”

David Parong @davidparong
“Natures Algorithm,” - Encapsulates the harmonious relationship between nature and technology. The concept embodies the idea of Nature’s Algorithm navigating a virtual reality (VR) landscape that simulates a forest environment while simultaneously being grounded in the natural world.

Adam Fong
“Parasite” - This piece represents the evolution of nature into the natural world, fusing digital and organic elements resembling mosquito larvae as well as cyber futurism. This pieces used dead stock taffeta, batting, repurposed poly fill, and acetate.

Luke Severns @lukeseverns74
“Ethereal Growth” - This complete look draws inspiration from biomimicry, where nature’s processes and systems are integrated into design. By incorporating living moss into the fabric, the shirt embodies the concept of natural technology, where organic growth and fashion intersect.

You are now tuned into the tomb of Jehova
Play my tunes loud enough to shake the room, what’s the hold up?
Heard the world is ending soon I assumed that they told ya
They tryna dinosaur us
So now it’s time to go up
