There's a rather brilliant documentary film out now about a futball (that’s slang for what the euros call football or the gringos call soccer) player who became famous for his footwork and goal scoring, then suddenly disappeared, taking on a new life in a new country, and with a new persona…we're quite looking forward to seeing the film, @LastGuestDoc The Last Guest Of The Holloway Hotel, but in what’s left of my analog scribing brain, that shortened soliloquy above on the film’s premise, is tangential to the story of the famed Porsche 356…
.
Starting in Gmund Austria come 1948, Ferdinand Porsche built the first 50 of the now legendary 356 cars…once production was moved to Germany, the 356 went on till 1965 having more than 76,000 units made in its life span…from 1952 thru 1965, the #356 was smartly competitive in international rallies like Liège-Rome-Liège Rally (a clean sweep of 4 outright victories in 1952, 1954, 1957, and 1959), the Rallye Monte Carlo (Class Wins in 1962, 1963, and 1965), and on and on…then came the now famed 911 starting in 1965, and so it was out with the old, in with the new…

This weekend last, I spent time at the #Luftgekuhlt event which is a celebration of air cooled Porsche cars…though I ran w/a crew of like minded nutters, every few feet, I had privilege of shaking a hand of many an old and new friend…much was the oft repeated question of if I had brought Amarillo, my 356B Outlaw, but better so, were the conversations w/all the punters who had Porsche 356 cars that had been blessed w/new life under their stewardship…in kind, 10x were the Outlaws over the restorers, both in drivers and in ripping 356s, as well several that looked like a pampered restoration, but when you opened the boot, they had a built motor tucked in that could shove them down the road like they had been shot from a well wound trebuchet!
.
Ole to the old, made better than the new & to all those cheeky 356 Outlaw bastards w/mild grin who can wrassle the tiller w/competence and put foot thru floorboard before they take your pink slip at the end of the twisties!

It was once asked, what’s your favorite place, to which the reply was, I don’t have a favorite place, I have favorite people, and where we gather is my favorite place…
.
And so it goes, and so it went…
.
Weekend of last, I took in many a visitor if not many a visit…on a Friday, Pedro @skidblock of @mobil.werks fame, drove his fab #Mercedes 190C from Charlotte and delivered a well built Porsche 741 12-bolt transmission for @rmreeves356 to the shop of @andrew_eagan661 who in turn is bolting it to a wicked Willhoit based 356 motor he's building from a 912 case for Ryan (plus Andrew will be making upgrades to Ryan’s 356 chassis and suspension along with a slew of other fine feathered bits that will transform it to a helluva outlaw)…
.
Along the travels, Pedro joined for an eve at the abode as we discussed Ai to the wee hours of the morn after we had quite a joust galivanting round town w/several silly good cars - the 550 Spyder & 356B in the stable, plus Ryan’s 356C...come the next morn, it was off to visit @BroadwayJoe1 for his 356 Outlaw was in need of further sorting downwind by Pedro, tho w/cap in hand, it was rather spirited in its sitting form!

Somewhere long route, I played host to favored South African Porsche enthusiasts @altus_booysen and his #bride Celeste, which had us ripping round historic Savannah for quickened Porsche tours, fab dining, more conversant Ai conversations, then on to a morning breakfast and worldly discusses with @NatashaVphoto after her barn burner #marathon training run!
.
So where is my favorite place? The addition to the aforementioned answer at top of this scribe is definitively, where my favorite people gather AND alongside their travel…

Ole to LIFE, don’t leave home without it [and vile kit]!!

Over hill and dale, the passing of a good storyteller, has oft effected me so…add to it, a songwriter of substance, and the #heart leans into the winds as it weighs heavier…

On me Mum's side, we Goodletts have the German as she immigrated young to the USofA leaving a war torn country that had those who were opposed, wanted no part of the reckoning…as the life goes, she met me Dad who was attending SMU and they shared a game of tabletennis, then a life of racquet sports, and later four little hellions, one of which had the blond of Mum, but three sported Dad's flamed red hair and lineage that traced partly back to Ireland, where it can be said, his endless love for a telling tale, had tangential ties back to that country’s birth of storytelling where many a wreath is laid upon…
.
Looking back, there’s no mystery as to my genesis of pedaling a Porsche at pace, for the German in me bows to the engineering, while the Irish says that the ones in the stable, are conversation starters that lend bended ear to travels taken w/the willingness of heartened abandon...now in the 2nd half of life, it's more the axiom of it being true that its way more fun to drive a slow car fast, than it is to be in a fast car traveling slow behind those who know not the force of the right pedal and the adventures that restlessly lay ahead…
.
Wednesday last, a favored Irishman passed abruptly into the night…Glen Hansard was frontman to a life of proper busking upon streetcorner even after he found a level of fame w/his band The Frames then finding great fortune in indie film ONCE that he starred in…though I am forever saddened by this life’s loss of Glen, I am forever grateful for the time he spent turning penned writing to longing song…

In Spanish, AMARILLO means yellow, though the word has traveled farther than many respectable international gentlemen ever will…olde Spanish variants of AMARILLO brushed sleeves with Arabic ‘anbarí’ —amber or golden-colored —proving that languages, like frontier towns, are built from whatever wanders in and overstays a welcome…AMARILLO now ranges across the Spanish-speaking world and beyond, lending its sunny name to sandy and yellowish places, including the West Tejas city north of my old stomping grounds - Lubbock – and thus the aptly named city of Amarillo, where oil, cattle, wind, and human optimism all roam the high plains without a leash…
.
Spanish’s yellowed AMARILLO in modern society, represents positivity, energy, intellect, happiness, warmth, and optimism because it resembles sunlight, nature’s original marketing campaign…yet in the North Americas, it also signals caution and alertness, which is sensible as anything that bloody cheerful is probably hiding paperwork…

Last Friday, I hosted an #Ai lunch-n-learn with the team to discuss my latest model, using Angel Investing de-risking MAD tools as a gateway to the thesis of Reasoning Economics—the #science of measuring, allocating, optimizing, auditing, and steadily improving computational Ai reasoning and decision learning as an economic asset…thus, my continuing Amarillo caution is this: the come to Jesus meeting for companies that are leveraging Ai and needed MAD model integrations, will be a MUST role change of the C-suite including that of a CIA (chief information architect), to one that focuses on managing Ai reasoning as a financial asset…for the companies that do as such, they will outperform their competitors that merely consume singular Ai LLM output riddled with bias, error, feathers, and all...
.
Olé to life in Amarillo—with intelligence, optimism, sunshine, and a caution sign nailed firmly to the gate that opens to the future yellow brick roads where learned advice is gold!

It has been a long, peculiar run of months — the sort that makes a lad ponder whether he is sailing into the mystic or simply being invoiced by it...
.
The dev team, to their great credit, has been firing on all cylinders, including on our Audience Intelligence #ai app...to keep them focused [and me out of main code], I spent off-hours time building an Ai app to prove a model that will be applicable to the company Ai, but for now, is employed in my angel investing work...using a MAD reasoning model (multi-agent debate) that sends parallel de-risking algorithms into multiple LLMs, scores outcomes, illuminates gaps, exposes missed variables, cross re-analyzes, and has an additional trained reasoning model synthesize the whole circus into a singularity....and yes, it also tracks token usage, time, and cost by model, because no modern voyage into co-intelligence is complete until you know the vig...

Meanwhile, Amarillo — my #Porsche #356 #Outlaw — is back after months of expert work at @mobil.werks led by @skidblocks, whose engineering acumen seems more reserved for watchmakers and lads who know factory tolerances better than the factory...the work was extensive: converting a 6-bolt dif to a 12-bolt unit capable of surviving an Outlaw motor’s higher torque, regearing, solving fuel issues, preventing distributor self detonation, adding more gauges, and curing mechanical ailments in need of a spanking...
.
Sunday morn, I took Amarillo out for a much-needed pre-dawn surf patrol rip...along the way there were painted skies, fellowship among the mechanically afflicted, and an uninterrupted grin reminding me why analog machines remain civilization’s finest rebuttal to login screens and Ai...
.
By later Sunday afternoon, the sky had gone biblical and rain came down sideways in units normally associated w/tidal waves...I returned to Ai development into the wee hours and once again 'Sail Into The Mystic' became thematic theme...

Olé to good people like Pedro and to staying balanced in a hybrid analog/digital life that changes hourly!

The favored band #WAR, was formed in year of 1969...known for blending funk, rock, jazz, and Latin styles, it came upon the song #LowRider almost by accident during a studio session when saxophonist Charles Miller, inspired by his love for a 1952 Chevy, started ad-libbing the "low" vocal whilst being intoxicated and then in crashed the band with the rest of the tempo...
.
That story is not far from my love affair with my famed birth year @Porsche 356B, and wence placed upon proper chassis and suspension setup last year by @andrew_eagan661, she ran lower and ripped with equal funk fervor till a transmission made horrid, unwanted, non groovy band disentegrating sounds...
.
Flash forward, and I'm thankful that THE Pedro @skidblock and his @mobil.werks company made room and time to take Amarillo's transmission repair on...and if you don't know Pedro, you should as he's the chap who built Nico's @53porsche_lcp 1953 Pre A 356 bent window racecar...not only did they drive said ripper from Charlotte NC to the start of the famed @lacarrerapanamericana race in the bottom of Mexico, but they ran the race full flog, podiumed the classic division, then the two lads drove the car back up thru Mexico and all the way to Charlotte with nary an issue save for a faulty coil which they had a spare on board! Pedro built that 741, 12 bolt transmission to take the beating of the distance drive and the 6 day rally race, and it still propels itself for hoonery to this day!
.
Ole to getting my 356 back and bullet proofed so it can be properly pedaled for the coming OUTLAW RALLY APPALACHIA with others of similar bent minds and funky souls!

The word #Savannah comes from the Taino word zabana or sabana, meaning "open plain" or "treeless grassland," a term used by the indigenous Taino people who lived in the Caribbean before European colonization...the Taino people spoke an Arawakan language and its origins are one of the most geographically extensive language families in the Americas...the Arawakan (or Arawak) people and Africans are not ethnically the same, but they share a deep historical and genetic connection shaped by the colonial history of the Caribbean and South America...
.
Summer is never far, even as temps around this part of the Savannah dip below freezing on the occasion of a northerner that blows thru during the wintering...in the summer months, any smarting surfer knows, you must watch for the heat swirl that comes off the West Coast of Africa's Sahara that the gods willing, mixes with the cooler air of the water that then turns into hurricane churn, which makes its way across the Atlantic for ridiculously good #surf here as well as much needed gobsmacking sunsets that paint the skies with incredible burned colors!
.
In kind, for those who are part of the @surfESA @ESAgeorgia region, quick reminder that our end of 2025 year Banquet, Awards and Scholarships is on Feb 7th! Thanks to all who participate and as well to our Directors Tara and Jeff Mosley for their leadership!
.
Ole to life on the water, and with good surf buggies as well as buddies!
