POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Friends, as promised, I’ll be holding a Saturday noon zoom to discuss self-care and mutual care and creative projects, tomorrow, Nov. 30, 2024 (round 4). DM me for the link. Other thoughts and prayers below:

1-3: Today, Nov. 29 is #InternationalDayofSolidaritywithPalestine (as observed since 1977). Perhaps we can turn today (aka Black Friday) and the ensuing capitalist holiday season into something different. #BDS #freePalestine #armsembargonow

4: my gorgeous mom, as photographed by Josh in Manhattan

5: Lovely @wordsinteal has made a list for Electric Lit with so many of my beloved fellow Bangladeshi authors. Link in bio. They’re all incredible, but I want to give a special shoutout to @leesagazi’s novel Good Girls, beautifully translated by Shabnam Nadiya. #authorsofinstagram #bangladesh #writing

6, 8: Loving hanging out with my extended family: Maher’s sister in law Cindy and their incredible chef dad, Chandi Uncle in Queens; and a spread of food at Buneka’s in Philly #fam

7: Thanksgiving is also known as #nationaldayofmourning for Native Americans (also since the 70s). Please check out @nikitadumptruck’s latest brilliant post about the violence of American settler colonialism (and erasure of said history).

9: I am so proud of the anarchists, Four Thieves Vinegar Collective, for reverse engineering big pharma to make drugs more affordable for people, esp with the coming administration.

10-14: My mom in Little Bangladesh in Jackson Heights. Delish vegan bites and extravagantly good cocktails at Charlie Is A Sinner with my favourite DaveToc (Philly). Josh showing off new-to-him sweater and pants. Alan in NYC showing off his crazy zip tie zipper outfit. The yum vegan cake I made for my niece Inara’s first birthday.

Ok friends, I got some more very painful PT yesterday and this morning, am overjoyed at the #absenceofpain. Why do I not celebrate this gift longer? I eventually forget and go back to sitting on my ableist laurels.

1) Here I am demonstrating how much invisible fun work you can get done on a #kneelingchair (for @nmannaf).

2) #wingspan with Joshes after months of not playing.

3) A new cocktail, made in remote conjunction with @davidtoc: the Montenegroni! It’s actually Josh’s drink and I only had a sip bc my body is a temple and I am only drinking smoothies and ginger tea and water until I feel more stable physically.

What a gorgeous evening in Philly, celebrating I KNOW WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU, a @mcswys anthology on reproductive freedom. My dear friend Kim (whose brill work is in the book) invited me to read with her, and I got to hang with some of my fave Philly residents including my rockstar sis.

My first day at AWP, I got to see incredible so many writer-stars: Mira Jacob, Piyali Bhattacharya, Jafreen Uddin, Swati Khurana, Anjali Enjeti, Deesha Philyaw, Dawn Lundy, and Elizabeth Acevedo.

Plus I got to eat some delish Chinatown offerings and wander the Gayborhood with my fave DaveToc. (Guess what he’s pointing at).

1. My 24 hour pit stop in Philly was so much fun.

2. I got to have delish lunch at Walnut Street Cafe with my favourite DaveToc who I’ve been communing with about boys and love since 1991.

3. I caught my sister teaching the incredible month-long STEM camp she organizes every summer at Drexel for 13yo girls.

4-5. I 💜 hand-drawn thank you cards from my sweet sassy niblings, Quinn and Esme respectively.

6. Birthday boy Ezra with Simi and his friend Brice. I took the kids to the pool (so fun!) while Ezra and Simi went out for date night.

What a lovely morning! I woke up to #porotas waiting on the stove which I ate with a boiled egg and Maher’s leftover Singapore curry. Yum.

Then I got this gorgeous hand-knit #scarf from my dear college bestie Dave (he of the perfect #penmanship - just look).

And then the screen Maher, Simi, and I ordered for my mom arrived and now she can zoom-teach her classes with a modicum of privacy. She said, you’ll spoil me with all the presents. But I don’t think it’s possible to spoil a mother, certainly not mine.

A physically distanced #bobatea date with cutie DaveToc in our old #upenn campus haunts. That tall building behind the red sculpture was my junior year dorm. Dave and I met in 1991 during our freshman year. Still my favourite boy watching companion, 29 years later. I miss #philly. I love #oldfriends.

Here are some moments captured by David at the Philly Spoon Jam (or maybe Philly Spoon Jawn). It was a great time hanging out with @mifflinmanufactory @fiddleheadtoys and @davidtoc . We also had the opportunity to speak with visitors of the Fort and show some of our process. See you at the next one.

Last November, Dave and I had cocktails together in DC and realized we both loved sidecars. His all-time favorite sidecar was from 30 years ago at the St. Regis Hotel's famed King Cole Bar in NYC. Mine was at the French lounge, Gabriel Kreuther's, about 2 years ago. Thus was born the idea for Dave and Abeer's Sidecar Crawl. We picked a sunny Saturday in May, added 2 fancy hotel bars to the list (free bar snacks!), and packed a picnic lunch for beforehand (so we wouldn't end up passed out on the sidewalk). The only hitch was at the King Cole Bar where I discovered (after paying $25 under the painting of the farting king) that I had somehow mixed up the sidecar (which is cognac-based) with the cocktail I actually love, the southside (which is gin-based). Not to be deterred, we renamed our crawl "the Side Crawl" and moved on to the next bar. Josh gamely joined us for the ride, and we had a drunken blast although we unanimously decided to stop after the third stop (the wonderful Bemelman's Bar at the Carlyle Hotel with their white tuxedo'ed waiters, fabulous piano man, and endlessly replenished caddies of bar snacks). #sidecar #southside #sidecrawl #kingcolebar #gabrielkreuther #bemelmans #NYC
