These past couple weeks we fished the ACA event on Dardanelle and the MLF event on Cherokee! Dardanelle was a grind to say the least. We managed to put 3 fish in the boat each day to finish right in the middle of the pack. Cherokee was a different story!! We switched things up and managed to just barely sneak into the MLF Natty cut!!! Definitely learned a lot these past couple weeks. Big thanks to everyone who helps make these events happen and the CU team for all the support!!

For close to 30 years, I’ve watched David make a living doing what he loves, competing professionally at the highest level in a sport where very few ever get the opportunity to do it for that long, much less have the success he’s had along the way.
For all those years, tournaments meant David was the competitor. There were sponsors, travel, practice, preparation and a million other things that came with it, but when it came time to launch the boat, his job was to go compete. He was responsible for his decisions, his performance and getting where he needed to be.
These past few weeks, I’ve gotten to watch him head to some of those same lakes he’s competed on for years, only now in a completely different role.
This time he’s not the one trying to win. He’s the one responsible for 26 college anglers who are!
I’ve been able to be there for his first couple of tournaments as a college coach, and I think I’m starting to realize just how different this chapter really is. And more than once I’ve found myself thinking… I hope these young anglers realize what kind of coach they have.
I knew David had more than enough experience to coach them. What I don’t think I fully realized was just how much of himself he would put into everything else.
The phone calls. The sponsors. Finding opportunities for the team. Making sure boats and trucks are where they need to be. Traveling to the same lakes that he has competed at year after year after year.
And then there are the schedules. For almost 30 years, he only had to worry about getting himself where he needed to be and when. Now he’s keeping up with 26 college anglers, their schedules, boats, partners, meals, and everything that comes along with getting an entire team to a tournament.
I’ve watched him work harder behind the scenes for these college anglers than I think most of them will ever know. For almost 30 years, fishing was about David figuring out how to make himself better, make the right decisions, and compete at the highest level. Now I’m watching him take everything those years taught him and pour it into somebody else.
It’s definitely a different chapter.
And I think he’s exactly where he’s supposed to be!

Just wrapped up our first week of college fishing at Kentucky lake! This place was a grind to get bites every single day. Didn’t really have anything going for tourney day but did what we do best and locked a @outkasttackle black and blue jig in our hands and went to work! Ended up in 33rd and qualified for the national championship in February! So pumped! Big thank you to Virgil, @davidwalkerfishing and Misty for having a great place for us to stay and amazing food the whole week.

Had a good time fishing the Big Bass Bash too, big congrats to @landonpiercefishing and @macoy.johnson.fishing for finding some giants and finishing 12th overall. And congrats to @eli_scroggins_bassfishing for catching a 6 that got the team some awesome points! Can’t beat traveling and fishing with your best friends for a week, so blessed! Stay tuned for the YouTube videos coming up!
