While in Carmel I also had the chance to spend an amazing morning/afternoon with friends of 23 years, Sally Aberg and Jeffrey Becom!
1: Weston Gallery was closed, but I made the pilgrimage anyway!
2: Manual at Carmel Art Association is a doll!
3: I finally got to check out Jeff’s paintings!
4: I found an artist I love: Joaquin Turner. He also just opened his own gallery to sell his work and historic work by CAA artists!
5 and 6: Sally and Jeff showed me all the hidden art gems in town.
7: Scenic Drive was scenic!
8: Always have to hang out with Clint Eastwood’s black sheep!
9: Went to the best shop for flavored olive oils and vinegars. Lemon oil and kaffir lime vinegar had to come home with me!
10: Off to a happening time at Earthbound Farms.
11: I loved these little felt worms! They had a wire inside so as to be pose able!
12: Sally and Jeff
13: Flower were “all you can carry” in honor of Earth Day!

It was a great time. Be on the lookout for a new Becom exhibition in the gallery this summer!

On my fifth day at the ashram, I traveled to the nearby town of Rishikesh. I did so after meeting someone who was also meditating at the same place as me and, after dinner the night before, told me, “Go and visit Rishikesh. That is where the Beatles spent months meditating and working on their White Album.”

I was aware that the band had visited India, but this was exciting news to me. So, the following day, I made my way out of the ashram compound and walked towards the main road. From there, I rode a motorized rickshaw, also known as a tuk-tuk, to the center of Raiwala.
It is a small three-wheeled cart that is very efficient, low-cost, and popular for getting around. It only has an open door to get in and out. At that moment, I was the only rider on board, and a few minutes later, we arrived at a place where I could get another ride for the longer trip.
At the spot I was dropped off, there were a few empty rides waiting for passengers. I saw a tuk-tuk with two Indian clients, and I went in, but the driver needed to wait until his small vehicle was full.
The back where the passengers would sit has two seats facing each other’s. It is like two small benches padded with a thin cushion stuffed with soft material. It would comfortably fit 3 people facing each other by looking at it. But here in India, the meaning of filled is to have 8 people sitting on those two seats, and by then, it is not such a comfy ride, especially when every small road bump or crack can be felt across the body. It can also be a wild, bumpy ride, but the effervescence it gave me and the way my five senses embraced it made me relish such a moment. But on most occasions, it was not packed, and it felt relaxing to feel the breeze and the freedom of riding a car. At times, it was like a rollercoaster, and the driver, at full speed, would zig-zag and go through unimaginable narrow spaces where both sides of the ride were almost touching other cars or walls. Sometimes, half of someone’s body, or my own, would be on top of someone else. Other times my butt would find room in a small space the size of a bicycle seat where half my body was about to fall forward. #rishikeshdiaries #rishikeshtrip Indian old man offering flowers to the sacred Ganges River in Rishihesk India
