Le Family Christmas Desserts Party 2025 - part 5: What a joy it was to gather with friends and family to celebrate Christmas together. It was a night of precious reunions and celebrations, of community and friendships, of love and laughter, of old friends and new relationships.

It was a glimpse of heaven, getting to revel in the joy of life-giving fellowship, celebrating and thanking God for the precious gift of our abundant life together.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

We are so richly blessed.

One of the best parts about the desserts party is the coming together of dear friends who share in the baking, making, shaping, dipping, cutting, plating, and so many other activities involved in preparing for the incredible feast.

We are deeply grateful for the loving kindness of our family, friends, and neighbors, without whom we could not do this.

It was a full day of so much work preparing for tomorrow’s celebration. It was also a full day of reunions, storytelling, reconnecting, amidst a lot of baking and cooking.

So very grateful for this precious gift of love, of friendship.

Today is the 21st anniversary of the death of Nick Tidy, one of our dearest friends whom we still love deeply. We continue to remember Nick and thank God for the many gifts that he brought to our lives. We are grateful for his love, friendship, mentoring and coaching. Nick coached Zach when Zach was 7. Nick promised them $20 for each header goal. None of them got that prize that year. Two years later, Zach scored on a header. He was on a different team, with a different coach. Nick heard about the goal. The next time Nick saw Zach, Nick handed him a $20 bill. “What’s this for?” Zach asked. “I promised you $20 for a header goal,” answered Nick.

Years ago, I was out of town and missed watching our boys play soccer. I got a text from Corinne who said, “Nick would have given Garrett a $20 bill today!” I knew exactly what she meant.

This picture is of Malibu’s U-10 All-Star B team about 2 decades ago. Nick and Keith coached this group of boys, so full of energy and excitement. They played their hearts out. Most of these boys and their families had never experienced post-season play nor playing outside of Malibu. We’ll always remember the first post-season game. The boys arrived one by one, wearing their own warm-ups of varying colors, dragging their mismatched bags, looking like the Bad News Bears. Other teams all showed up in their matching everything, marching in unison. Nick coached them well, loved on them and encouraged them every step of the way. I don’t think they ever won a game, but they kept playing their hearts out... with Nick always cheering them on... never giving up...

Nick died the following year, before the season ended, before these boys had a chance to play together with Nick again. This same team became Malibu’s U-10 All-Stars A Team. They called themselves Team Tidy, to honor their coach whom they loved so much. Team Tidy, under the leadership of Coach Alex Cary, won the area championship, bearing the Tidy name.

We remember Nick and his love of life. We remember how much he loved Terah, Scarlette, and Jonesy. We remember how much he loved our boys. We remember what a gift he was, and still is, to all of us.

We love you, Nick!

Sunday after church - just a few hours before the main event: setting up tables and lights… a flurry of last-minute/final touches and details… anticipation was in full swing…
