Fifty-nine years later this statement still rings true on the International Day of Peace.

On this day, we collectively speak out through actions and words in the hope of finding and creating peace in our world.

☮️ Peace can come in small actions, such as being kind to a neighbour or a senior.

🤲 Or supporting organizations that work towards peaceful resolutions.

✊ Sharing our voices against violence in all forms.

🪴 Tending a community garden for all to enjoy.

🎨 Or creating art that even 59 years later, still resonates around the world.

War is Not Healthy for Children and Other Living Things (1967) Lorraine Schneider, Artist.

Lorraine Schneider was an artist and printmaker known for her iconic work “Primer,” which features the phrase “war is not healthy for children and other living things.” This piece was created in response to the Vietnam War and has since become a symbol of anti-war sentiment still in use today.

Schneider was deeply involved in social issues, including the Civil Rights movement. She worked as an occupational therapist with WWII veterans, which influenced her perspective on war and peace.

The original poster design (featured here) was gifted to SFMOMA by the artist.

Individually, we can make a difference on this International Day of Peace.

Be kind. Show peace in your day to day actions towards fellow humans of all ages and the environment that sustains us all.

FEATURE OF THE MONTH: DAY OF PEACE

What the hell is in the water in the Coachella Valley? 👀

@dayofpeacehc is one of the latest bands coming out of a scene that’s been steadily building its own identity, and they’re bringing the kind of hardcore that makes you want to get moving. Their debut EP, Way Down, packs five tracks of two-steps, heavy riffs, and beatdowns into just 10 minutes.

For this month’s Feature, we’re getting into Day of Peace, Way Down, and the growing Coachella Valley hardcore scene that’s giving these bands a place to build something of their own.

The band gets a spot on our home page for the month!
