Use Zigs This Winter - Darren Wallace

When bites are hard to come by fishing zigs can literally turn your winter sessions around if you get it right. Below is a few key tips to really help you tune into zig fishing this winter!

1️⃣Start off with a small razor sharp hook, The #Stinga pattern from #AtomicTackle is perfect for this as it was designed for #Zig #Fishing!

2️⃣I opt for the foam #ZigBugs because they are easy to use in conjunction with the #ZigBug Aligners and I always make sure they are glugged for extra attraction. Being 100% foam the bugs really take on the extra attraction & maintain buoyancy.

3️⃣Long #AntiTangle sleeves are a must to help kick the rig out and to minimise tangles, Another great tip is to ditch the tubing behind the lead clip, this will 100% help in eliminating tangles on the cast even if you miss cast and plummet the lead in.

4️⃣Heavy leads are a must, it helps pull that hook home and allows you to fish really tight lines with the bobbin jammed against the buzzer for maximum bite indication. When #Zig fishing you will either get a screaming take, or a drop back and a few beeps, either way you need to know because there can be quite a distance between your lead and hook if you're fishing long zigs. Taking out all the slack between your lead and reel is a must! Fish heavy bobbins too, you want them to drop if that lead moves towards you.

5️⃣Where possible I ditch the tail rubber meaning I drop the lead on the take every time and means I'm in direct contact with the fish at all times. #Dissolva #Pva tape or #CableTies are perfect for tying off the leadclip in place of a tail rubber.

6️⃣Always cast to a line clip or trap the spool before the lead lands in the water, this allows the zig to pass the lead tangle free and keeps the lead in the front of the clip.

7️⃣Don't be afraid to cast! keep changing positions of the zigs at regular intervals, using the bow string lines to fish for liners which can assist in telling you what range the fish are at. Also tweaking the depth is important to finding that optimum level where the fish are sitting.
