Catchers, stop guessing and start measuring your progress.

The road to success is never a straight line. It’s built through hard work, adjustments, setbacks, and consistency.

I’m using the Pipeline Sports App to capture my framing, study my technique, and keep improving one pitch at a time.

The little details separate good catchers from great ones. 💪

this glove ain’t gonna break itself. another session breaking it in. since people wanted something more fundamental, kept this one straightforward, less of the personality, kind of boring honestly. but there’s something relaxing about just hearing the ball hit the glove over and over.

day five of improving my swing. honestly not much more to say, i genuinely feel like it’s coming along. started with the 34 inch bat then went to my 32 to simulate game swings. that’s pretty much it.

tee drills for bat speed. first up is the 34 inch bat, heavier and longer than what i usually swing, i’m a 32 guy normally, so learning to control that extra length and weight. then into happy gilmore style, then soft toss to finish it off. that’s the session.

new glove, new grind. picked this one up at @dbatwoburn , great selection and even better service when it comes to breaking a glove in right. still gotta put in the work yourself though. no music on this one, just the sound of leather getting broken in. second @rawlings heart of the hide and loving it so far.

you’re locking in. pov of everything from that session, tee work then hitting. doesn’t have to be more than that.

breaking a glove doesn’t have to be boring. put midnight sun in the background, which was hilarious cause they were literally playing it @dbatwoburn while i was breaking it in, just had fun with it. my dance moves suck and i look stiff, but so is my glove, so that’s kind of the point. that’s it.

Youth catchers need more than framing drills they need a strong lower half.

The one knee stance has its place, but young players still need to develop the strength, mobility, balance, and explosiveness to get into a traditional stance, block, throw, move laterally, and receive from different positions.

Don’t let one stance become the only stance.

Build the legs. Build the hips. Build the foundation.

A catcher who can move well, stay strong late in games, and control his body behind the plate is going to have more tools to work with as he develops.

Develop the athlete first. The stance comes second.

day four of improving my swing. swung a heavy bat and did some soft toss, then switched to my game bat. worked on the max setting on the machine trying to get clean hits. that’s it.

soft toss therapy. hitting soft toss with a heavy bat, trying to get my bat speed up any way possible. remember having some success with this before and swinging a lot better when i used it as a training tool, so figured why not bring it back with soft toss, hadn’t done it in a while.
