There is benefit to having an open stance alignment but don’t allow that to compromise your development in adding to your tool box.

It’s not overrated, if you can benefit from it then learn it & use it to your advantage.

Never give a coach the assumption that you can’t do something. Be as dynamic as you can be and take advantage of every opportunity.

Some coaches will prefer you to be square and back pedal,
Do you want to be prepared to execute or be dropped on the depth chart because you lack the skill necessary?

My advice find someone who can teach you both‼️

BACKPEDALLING is a foundation to a defensive back, it cannot be overrated because it is an essential tool to benefit your success.

Telling a player or coach that it’s overrated might bring assumptions that it’s not needed or shouldn’t be taught and that only lessons the potential tools in your tool box and creates a foundation off BAD HABITS of opening the gate and not working the detail necessary to stay square in coverage.

Staying square is not easy it is an art that lost DBs struggle with not only in off coverage but press coverage. The detail within the technique to stay square is challenging, don’t skip steps.
