Detroit’s notorious Wayne County jail. This may be my most disappointing set but I still love the history and the chance I got to explore this place.

Built in 1929 and demolished from late 2025-2026, this jail was known for its extremely inhumane conditions, overcrowding, and a complete lack of clean drinking water. It was so bad, in fact, that inmates and attorneys successfully sued the county in 1971 to force basic human rights improvements.

It was around 2am when we made it over the fence and into the jail. It took a few attempts because police kept circling the block, and for this reason we could not use our lights or my new flash in most of the building. We didn’t have much time to explore this one, both because of time restraints and the bitter cold temperatures with an almost deadly wind chill. Still, it was a breathtaking experience to walk through the cell blocks of such an infamous place.
