Homesickness is hitting hard today. It’s Canadian Thanksgiving and there is no where I would rather be than walking in the woods, with all those crunchy fallen leaves and surrounded by family.

While I can’t magically transport myself (trust me, I have tried), I can get in the kitchen and cook my feelings out.

So today, we made Thanksgiving dinner and we sat around the table and shared the things we are thankful for and the things we hope for ☮️.

Sometimes a meal is more than a combination of food on a plate. It’s memories. It’s conversation. It’s nourishment. It’s a gift. It’s comfort. It’s home.

Wishing for peace in your home and around the world today. 💛

One of the best parts of moving to the 🇺🇸 is the chance to celebrate my favorite holiday twice.

I’ve been running to keep up with her my whole life.

Wanted to send this #sundayshoutout (if this is not a thing I am making it a thing 😉) to my big sis.

She asked me to pace her for the last 10Ks of her Saturday long run. 32kms! She ran 32km and there was no medal 🏅 at the end, no cheering 📣 crowd, no lion 🦁 chasing her. Just 32kms because she can (and a pretty amazing running coach told her too). And those 10KS were at race pace which is way faster than I usually run 🥵. As you can see her legs are up to my chest which is why I have literally been chasing 🏃🏼‍♀️to keep up my whole life. One of us was destined to be a runner and one of us uses it for pure therapeutic value. 💛

So we ran, we talked about all the things and we ended in the ocean 🌊 feeling grateful for the legs that took us there and the ties that bind us together.

On semi-spring break over here. Pete and I are still working but the kids are off school. Wish us luck 🤪.

On the down side my in-laws headed home after an extended visit. Which means a 50% drop in pur babysitting capacity and Pete and I somehow have to figure out how to do laundry 🧺 again. My mother-in-law folds like she worked at the Gap in the 90s and it’s glorious.

On the bright side my sis and fam arrive tomorrow 🤸🏼‍♀️, so to be honest this #mealplan is best laid plans. There’s a birthday 🥳 thrown in there and when the rest of the fam is on vacation time who knows what will come.

That’s the thing about meal planning don’t let it stress you out. If it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you planned who cares? Maybe it turned out even better💛.

If someone invites you to dinner, go for it.
If the salmon at the store looks like 💩, grab the shrimp 🍤.
If you come home to exhausted to cook, heat up that chicken soup 🍲 and thank your lucky stars you thought to put some in the freezer for later.
If you just don’t feel like tacos 🌮 on Tuesday 😳, make what feels great to you.

If you are reading this, you are likely above the age of 21, heck who am I kidding, you are likely over the age of 35, and you are a grown-ass adult who gets to make your own freakin’ decisions. So do it. You got this. Write ✍️ the damn meal plan.

Just your friendly cuss-word filled Sunday pep talk from your nutritionist bestie.

💛Home💛

We were talking about our trip to Canada and Ruby referred to it as going home. Given the fact that she only lived there for 6 months of her 7 years, it begs the question what constitutes HOME? Over the years I have come to determine that it is not just where the ❤️ is, because in my case that is way too many places and it is not necessarily where you spend the most time. It's a feeling.

Physically, the beach 🏝 has become my home. I feel grounded, calm and most myself when I can see the 🌊 once a day or feel the salt in the air (even though my hair certainly does not find said air very homey 😉. I relish the routine, the activity🏃🏼‍♀️🎾, the outdoors🌳, the heat☀️, my job, the food 🥗in my kitchen and the people I have surrounded myself with. But, it is nights, like the one in this photo, that make me remember what I love about my former home. Long walks, late at night, in the rush of the city post an amazing meal. I miss that. I am so happy I have it to come back to.

Emotionally, it is the people that make me feel most at home. The connection you get is just different in someone's physical space. There is more unspoken communication. More that is felt and less that needs to be said. More hugs. This is what I got out of the last week.

But, We don't have to go back to a specific place to feel that. It opens a world of possibility to know I can meet those people anywhere. I can join friends for a weekend on the lake, I can invite family to my home, I can ski with my best friend on a new-to-us mountain, I can walk a new trail with my parents, I can take my father-in-law to Greece to visit the place he once called home.

Home is a feeling I have while walking side by side with my sister whether it's a city street or a long-stretch of sand. It is a catch-up with my best friend that doesn't require air pods. It's a glass of wine at the pool with a friend rather than an endless text chain (although those are important too).

Home is the intersection between the physical space and the human connection that makes me feel most like me.

F*€k Cancer!

For one weekend each year in February our little town becomes the epicenter for the fight against breast cancer. Thousands of runners, survivors and fighters take to the streets for @262withdonna , the marathon relay, 13.1, 5K or in Ruby’s case when she was three - 1 mile. This is my 9th year and my first alone.

This race looks different. Like so many changes this past year chalk this up to another event gone virtual.

But you know what hasn’t changed? The need to find a cure, support the cost of treatment, build programs based on prevention and to relieve the financial burden on the families in the fight. That is what this organization does and that is why it’s more important than ever to give what you can.

So today, felt as good as any to lace up my shoes, pop in a great playlist and race my 5K to end breast cancer. You can still sign up if you want to join me - the app is pretty awesome and tells you your mile splits and tracks your distance and time. It couldn’t have been easier.

I sure missed the crowds, my fellow runners and the way we paint this town pink but what remained was the tears that inevitably come each time I cross that finish line and say f*€k cancer.
