Have you noticed the stunning LED screen and visuals this year at Rooftop?

Who is creating all of that magic?

Meet Dean Cheesman (@dcheesman), a creative technologist who programs the digital magic behind every band on our stage.

Dean, along with wife @natalielandrey, co-own a company (Self Similar) that creates interactive visuals. A large part of their work involves creating interactive LED walls for corporate events, sports arenas, and the like.

Some of Dean’s notable projects in addition to Rooftop, include a permanent LED wall installation in the Delta Center for the Utah Jazz . . .

An LED basketball court at the Bellagio in Las Vegas . . .

and a football throwing game on Radio Row at the Super Bowl. (He also recently did the AI visuals for the Queens of the Stoneage Tour!)

Dean has long had a personal interest in contributing to the music and arts scene in Provo. He founded “Buzzards and Bees,” a successful music festival with a Halloween twist that ran in Provo for years.

We did a fun project last year and today is the day to share it! Our neighborhood does this epic block party for Independence Day and last year we passed around the camera to something like 15 people at the party to capture little moments. Editing this made me really happy and grateful for our friends and community.

Earlier this year, our close friend and collaborator @saltlakejake_ brought us in to sharpen up a few interfaces for a project he and @jake___welch were building for @rittmomney.

Together, they created an interactive, explorable world for a live performance captured at @juneaudio.

Grateful to have played a small part in this one, and to work alongside the whole crew.
