🎈Big reveal: introducing The Faculty of Mindset.

Its members have all shared their wisdom on The Flourish Feed and each brings a different dimension of what it means to flourish from the inside out.

Deb Knupp helps organizations build cultures where top talent wants to work. Her own journey through parenting and adolescent mental health has shaped her conviction that love is the throughline of human flourishing.

Mark Gasparotto, Canadian Army veteran and leadership expert, teaches us that resilience is built by struggling well.

Dr. Marianne Cottin is a leading expert on the neuroscience of flow, showing us how effortless excellence is possible.

David Clancy has coached elite teams across the EPL, NHL, NFL, and NBA. His contrarian belief: athletes are humans, not assets and mental fitness matters as much as physical.

Rich Diviney, retired US Navy SEAL commander, discovered that elite performance isn’t about skill - it’s about attributes, with mindset at the core.

Greg Klym, mindfulness and embodiment coach, reminds us that in a chaotic world, acceptance is the real superpower.

These exceptional leaders expand our bench strength at Flourish Family Wealth, where we believe wealth comes in four forms - time, money, energy, and attention - and that flourishing is something you can design.

The Faculty of Mindset now joins our Faculties of Money, Muscle, and Economic Agency.

DM me if you want to learn how this can help you flourish.

Did you see how calm the Toronto Blue Jays were during their World Series run last year? Commentators kept using a new term: “low heart rate.” Because for 99.999999% of us, the sheer terror of standing on that mound would make it impossible to even lift an arm.

We don’t give pro athletes enough credit for the pressure they endure. People say, “It’s just a childhood game,” but the reality is far more intense.

Which brings me to my friend David Clancy - my guest on today’s episode of The Flourish Feed. David has helped teams across the EPL, NHL, NFL, and NBA build ecosystems of excellence. His big insight? Treat athletes as human beings whose mental fitness is just as important as physical fitness.

He asks: What if pro sports became a laboratory for designing environments where humans flourish under pressure, not just survive it? And what if the rest of us learned from that?

Today, we’re in his dojo. Watch or listen via the links in my bio.

Does professional sport matter? Yes it does – big time. And should you care? Yes, you should.

It is one of the most visible and influential performance ecosystems in the world. It shapes how millions of people think about effort, identity, leadership, winning, failure, resilience, and even worth.

David Clancy, sports medicine specialist, performance consultant and CEO of The Next Level Group, has deep experience improving the ecosystems of excellence for teams in the @EnglishPremierLeague, @NHL, @NFL, @NBA and many others.

He recognizes that the systems around elite athletes have historically been built to extract performance rather than cultivate flourishing.

As he puts it: “Players are seen as assets… commodities…as if it was a stock that you’re trading.”

Here is what he wonders: what would happen if professional sport became a laboratory for designing environments where humans *flourish* under pressure rather than merely *survive* it? And what if humanity – including you 🫵and your organization – was made better by its example?

As artificial intelligence continues to grow across professional posts, its role in player health and performance is becoming increasingly relevant. AI has the potential to support smarter, more informed decisions, but comes with limitations.

Big thanks to David Clancy for providing this insightful look into how PTs working in professional sports can integrate AI into their systems.

Real Growth was built around insights from leaders across sports medicine, rehabilitation and business. Through conversations with people operating at the very top of their fields, a huge amount of wisdom, honesty and practical learning emerged.

The contributors shared openly, not just what has gone well, but what they have learned through challenge, failure and reflection. The depth and quality of insight genuinely inspired me, and I have no doubt that these perspectives will add real value to individuals, teams and the wider MSK industry.

Here is some of the lead quotes from each chapter that capture the themes and learning at the heart of Real Growth.

Be Present 🧘‍♂️

Richmond Stace visited us at Physiquipe HQ today and we recorded a Leading the Field podcast as part of our new Lunch Huddle initiative.

Richmond always brings a calmness when he is around. There is something about the way he speaks and thinks that slows everything down and makes you reflect.

We talked about being present. It sounds simple, but it is something many of us find difficult to do. I certainly do. It is so easy to get caught in the noise, distraction, and pressure of work and life.

Gabby and I have been taking mindfulness classes recently, and it has really helped us slow down and notice the small things that often get missed. And also stimulates good conversations!

This conversation followed on from our time in Dublin at Essential Skills 2 with David Clancy ☘️ , which focused on the 5 C’s.

I always come away from time with Richmond feeling grounded and reminded of what really matters. People, connection, awareness, and taking time to be where you are.

Excited to share this one soon.

𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀.
It’s 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨.

They’ve invested their whole identity.
So when injury hits, the pain cuts deeper than the body.
Because now… they have time to think.

And what they focus on shapes how they feel.

Dan Ballard of Sunderland AFC put it powerfully in The Observer UK:
“𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘫𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵, 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘶𝘱.”

He added:
“𝘏𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵. 𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘭.”

This is the part we often miss in rehab.
We focus on treatment, training loads, return-to-play protocols.

But when pain persists…
When recovery doesn’t follow the plan…

We must look beyond the gym.
Because persistent pain isn’t just a physical issue—it’s a whole-person experience.

The biomedical model breaks down here.
It searches for damage that often isn’t there.

It ignores what 𝘪𝘴: the person, their purpose, their world.

𝗦𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵:
The time 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 of football, outside the clinic, matters just as much.

Where that time is spent.
How it’s filled.
And who it’s with.

Those hours between rehab sessions—
That’s where true recovery can be won or lost.

That’s why in my work with players, we look at the full picture:
• Rebuilding purpose
• Rekindling relationships
• Restoring confidence through guided reconnection

If you’re a coach, physio, or performance director working with a player stuck in rehab—
Let’s talk.

Because sometimes the thing that helps football… isn’t football.
