“This administration doesn’t hesitate to threaten people they disagree with,” Luke Ganger, Renee Good’s

“Relatives of Renee Good, the woman killed by an ICE agent early this year during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, filed two federal lawsuits on Thursday, including one against the officer who shot her and several top Trump administration officials.

The lawsuits, filed in Minnesota federal court, accused the ICE agent, Jonathan Ross, of having placed himself at risk by standing in front of Ms. Good’s car during a tense confrontation on Jan. 7 and unjustifiably using deadly force.

In addition to Mr. Ross, one lawsuit also names as defendants Kristi Noem, the former secretary of homeland security; Stephen Miller, the top White House official overseeing immigration policy; Thomas D. Homan, the White House border czar; Todd Lyons, the former director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Gregory Bovino, a former senior Border Patrol official; and Corey Lewandowski, a former aide to Ms. Noem.

That suit says Ms. Good’s death was the result of an immigration operation in Minnesota that was driven by unconstitutional racial animus against Somali and Hispanic people.” Ernesto Londoño @nytimes

“ Brent Ganger said that his sister’s death made him and other white people grasp what it’s like “to not feel safe in this country.” When asked him elaborate, Brent said he had reflected on the civil rights movement and the white communities that were nominal but not deeply engaged allies.

He reflected on the similarities between the situation in which we find ourselves now,” he said. “Admittedly, people like me weren’t taking direct action even though I knew that what was going on with ICE was wrong.” Jay Gabler @nytimes

Should You Stay or Should You GO?

“I have a big decision to make,” Mr. Trump said from the podium of the assembly’s annual meeting in New York.

“Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before - maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world?

Or do I annihilate the Islamic republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?”

“Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or genera-tions?” DJT @nytimes

Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, delivered a defiant speech to the UN General Assembly. Mr. Pezeshkian stressed that Iran was attacked by the United States and Israel, its top leaders had been assassinated, its schoolchildren killed by American bombsand its population subjected to severe economic hardships. He showed pictures of fresh graves but also left open the door to new peace talks, saying Iran was “ready for dialogue.” @nytimes

In the spirit of reflection and demanding accountability after 25 years of the Global War on Terror, our efforts would be incomplete without remembering the millions of victims and survivors who were killed, displaced, incarcerated or continue to be detained without any semblance of due process.

Please join us TODAY (9/20) at 3:30 PM at the National Mall (between 6th and 7th Street NW at the Intersection of Jefferson Street, NW) near the Air and Space museum for a memorial on the International Day of Remembrance and Mourning for the Victims of the Islamophobia and the War on Terror.

Through reflection, testimony, art, ritual, and collective remembrance, this gathering will mourn the lives unjustly taken and irreparably changed. We will build a space to bear witness and reflect on our collective responsibility to preserve histories that institutions of power would have us forget.

May we honor their lives collectively to grieve all that has been lost and forgotten. 🫂🫂🙏🏼🙏🏼

For the second day of our conference during the third and final block of simultaneous sessions, we are joined by expert lawyers and scholars who will share the reality on the ground as it relates to the permissibility of speech and political dissent.

By presenting a series of case studies, we can see how the construction of terrorism has been weaponized to justify suppression that have shown up in cases from the Holy Land Five to another recent example of Praireland defendants.

Join us THIS week!
