Maryland is making a change.

The Terps have dismissed head coach Mike Locksley after a 2–5 start, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The move follows Saturday’s last-second loss to Rutgers and comes during Maryland’s bye week.

What should Maryland prioritize in its next head coach?

SEAN TAYLOR vs. TROY POLAMALU — FIRST 4 SEASONS 🏈

Two legendary safeties. Two completely different styles. And the numbers are closer than you might remember.

Taylor: 305 tackles • 12 INT • 8 FF
Polamalu: 314 tackles • 10 INT • 7 sacks • 4 FF

Taylor brought the physicality and takeaway production. Troy brought the pressure, instincts, and playmaking.

But here’s the question:

If you had to build your defense around one of these two after their first four seasons, who are you taking? 👀

No hype. No nostalgia. Just the numbers.

🚨🗣️ Coming in as the eighth seed in the eastern conference of our all-unc league are the Washington Wizards. First and foremost we have to mention Michael Jordan, whose inclusion on this team almost guarantees them a spot in the playoffs. His play as a Wizard is also among some of the highest quality individual basketball any player included in this countdown has played. While there’s no doubt his notoriety played a significant role in his back-to-back all-star appearances in Washington, there’s still strong cases to be made that he deserved those spots (albeit not as a starter) irregardless of his career resumè. It’s only that his prime version set the bar so high that this consistent 20-PPG scorer could be viewed as “washed” in any way.

But Jordan is also accompanied by a strong supporting cast of all-time uncs. Paul Pierce can do a formidable job filling the role of Jordan’s usual perimeter robin in Scottie Pippen. He shares Jordan’s unbreakable confidence and enhanced postseason play. While the road to a ring is nothing but a gauntlet of constant uphill battles as an 8 seed, this team will put up real fights against anyone they face.

The recent acquisition of Anthony Davis completes this starting five, filling what would’ve otherwise been a sizable talent downgrade at the four position. Ironically, both he and Khris Middleton, the player Davis was traded for to the even find himself in DC in the first place, both find themselves on this roster. This marks one of the first unc-for-unc deals in league history; a deal that’s the trickle-down product of Luka Doncic being dealt to LA for Davis.

Davis will be reunited with his championship frontcourt mate in Dwight Howard, forming a duo that will be as unstoppable offensively as it will be on the other end. Key playmakers like Mark Price and Andre Miller will have a field day hoisting lobs up anywhere remotely closely to the rim for these two to finish. And it’s nearly guaranteed no shot in the paint will find its way through the net with these two in the paint, not to mention the fact that teams will face an imposing 7’4 Ralph Sampson in the minutes either need rest.
