Bringing together organizations and individuals in support of creating excellent and equitable public schools for all DC students.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One thing was undeniable in the room: a shared commitment to the students of DC. 🎉

On Tuesday, August 25, the DC PCSB team and education partners from across the sector came together to celebrate all that was accomplished for DC’s children last year.

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together, and we’re excited to keep our foot on the gas! Together, we’ll continue working to ensure DC public charter schools are places where scholars can thrive, grow, and prepare to become the next generation of leaders.

There are some moments in life when you literally pinch yourself and ask yourself if you are dreaming lol 😂 . I was leaving a beautiful @dcstudentssucceed event and waiting for the valet to bring my car around and who walks in……………. THEEEEEE @staceyabrams ! 😆😆😆😆🫠😍🥹😭 ( I promise you these emojis are a true reflection of all my emotions in 3.5 seconds lol ). It was such a blessing to meet Stacey Abrams- I told her I was praying for her and Georgia and had a quick convo about serving DC residents. She told me to keep going, she didn’t judge me for hyperventilating lol and she told me that she was proud of my service to DC kids! She hugged me and my friend Tracy and we asked her if we could take a picture. And then my phone died lol ! Thank God for Tracy! Flash and all, we captured the moment we met THEEEEE Stacey Abrams! We love you! Thank you for everything you continue to do for this country! ✊🏾🙌🏾🫶🏾 #staceyabrams #staceyabramsappreciation #staceyabramsforgovernor

$15.7 million. That’s what the DC Council’s first budget vote added in new formula funding for public charter school students — who make up nearly half of ALL public school students in DC — narrowing the per-pupil funding gap by 30%. Funding public charter schools and DCPS fairly and equitably means that every student has access to a well-resourced education, regardless of which public school they attend.

This win comes from months of organized advocacy, close collaboration with Councilmember offices, and community mobilization. Thank you to the thousands of students, educators, families, and supporters who refused to be ignored this budget season: 320+ testimonies before the Council. 19,700+ emails. Nearly 400 advocates in the Council Chamber.

Thank you to Chairman Mendelson and Councilmembers Zachary Parker, Doni Crawford, Wendell Felder, Brooke Pinto, and Janeese Lewis George for helping champion funding equity for ALL public school students.

Council has until June 23 to #CloseTheGap. Read our full statement: link in bio.
