Dear UDC Art students, We are planning to have the SHOWCASE back this Fall 2025. It will be held in room B.10, building 42, on Thursday, December 4th, from 3-8 PM. This will be a one-day event only, and at the same time, there will be a closing party for the “Default Settings” photography exhibition. The poster is attached. If any art students interested in participating by having their work displayed in this fun unjuried art celebration event, please have them contact Topaz Terry (dctopaz@gmail.com). The work must be delivered on Tuesday, Dec 2nd, from 11 AM – 6 PM, and Thursday, Dec 4th, from 11 AM – 2 PM. The work doesn’t need to be framed. All photography and graphic design work needs to be printed with the minimum size 11X14. Paintings, drawings, and 3D works must be ready to be displayed on a table. Feel free to bring in any light refreshments to the event. We look forward to having the end of celebration from our Art Department! Thank you. Regards, Prof. Iwan Bagus.

I didn't want to end my tour without giving a shout out to one of my favorite DC Makers - Topaz M. Terry (@dctopaz ) and her businesses @bicycletrashdc and @amendadaptdc . . Topaz is deeply committed to upcycling and her art. Right now she's working on an order in her studio on the #BrooklandArtsWalk with friend and helper Francis S. (pictured). They're making branded dopp kits for @canarymarketing and Apple Ads. . BicycleTrash is a DC-based brand of bags, accessories and home goods made from locally sourced, used, bicycle parts and other upcycled materials. You can purchase BicycleTrash items at the shop on the Arts Walk, at the Made in DC stores, and on its website: . https://www.bicycletrash.com/product/open-sew-mend/125?cs=true&cst=custom . Topaz designs lots of other cool items from upcycled materials (including fabulous aprons made from used denim jeans). She also teaches sewing and has open sewing sessions at her studio twice a month. . Check out her shop and please remember to shop small and shop local! -- including on Shop Small Saturday (November 29, 2025). .

I would like to express my big gratitude to all of you for the birthday wishes. I turned 55 on February 23rd and despite all the challenges that have been happening, I feel fortunate. What’s life without challenges anyway? Especially because being an #artist and #arteducator living #outofthecomfortzone leads to personal and artistic growth. We must #keeptheartsalive. A quick recap from the month of February 2025. Slide 1: Picture was taken a few days ago by one of my students in #FineArtPhotography course, Amarachi Chikereuba @emmanfilms. A #studiolighting experiment for the still life #photoassignment, demonstrating the use of symbolism. Slide 2-9: I produced and curated the juried student #PhotoExhibition to commemorate the #BlackHistoryMonth in February and #WomensHistoryMonth in March. The photographs were inspired by two female authors, #NancyMorejón from #Cuba and #AliceWalker from the US. All the #photographicprints were produced by the students at #UniversityOfTheDistrictOfColumbia and #AmericanUniversity. Special thanks to David Ramirez, the Cultural Attache of #EmbassyOfCuba in #WashingtonDC. Also, thanks to @auphotolab @udcphoto and all #photographystudents who participated in this fantastic exhibition. If you are interested in seeing it, please let me know. Slide 10-12: My photographs for @studioactingconservatory were out everywhere in the #MetroDC area on the #DCMetro #digitalbillboard and #billboardbus. If you are in the area and see it, please take photos and tag me! I hope everyone is well. Have a wonderful month of March 2025 and if you observe, have a #BlessedRamadan. #iwanbagus #photographyprofessor #fineartphotographer #DCgallery #DCArtScene
