A few years ago, I realized I’ve basically been in the grief business since I was 16. I lost my dad really quickly to cancer, and for my high school senior exit project, I wrote an essay called “How Humor Heals the Body.”

Which… feels very on brand in hindsight.

I went on to live a full life of musical theater chaos (with its own layers of grief….more on that at another time….TRUST ME I will speak on it 👀), but when I started stand-up, this idea kept getting louder and louder:

What if there was a night centered around grief and loss… where people actually got it?

Because the truth is, the jokes land differently when you don’t have to explain the pain first.

Last year, backstage at a show, another brilliant comic, @annasimeri , mentioned she was in the Dead Dad’s Club….And something just clicked. Like… oh. This isn’t niche. This is human. Everyone will have to experience this at some point…. So we created ….

DDC presents GOOD GRIEF! 💀 @ddcgoodgrief !

A night that’s funny, dark, weird, honest, and somehow… REALLY JOYFUL🥰. Our incredible revolving door of insanely funny comedians all have experienced significant loss… And loss doesn’t just mean loved ones. We were also just featured this past week on @npr ‘s @laistofficial with Larry Mantle, which felt pretty surreal.

And now we’ve built this little community around it.
We’ve sold out every show so far, and the response and buzz has honestly meant everything.

It’s wild to take something that shaped you so deeply…
and turn it into something people can laugh in together. Come laugh cry w us anytime!
