Rochester, you have my whole heart. This small city showed me what real community and love look like. I’m still processing everything from the RCR 13 Battle Royale last night, but I am so incredibly overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you to everyone who showed up, supported, and believed. short story: acne can be complicated, but getting started can be as simple as a few, easy steps. I like to begin with the foundational things — baby steps predating the big ones. if you like more details, and the “why” — keep reading: 1.) pore clogging ingredients are different for everyone and can be more relaxed as you clear, but at first, I find eliminating most of them can help narrow down your own acne contributors 2.) cleansers are used up to 2-3x daily — and the main pain points I find: they’re not effectively removing daily buildup like makeup/sunscreen, and/or they’re too drying/harsh for your skin. we want a balance of both to clear the canvas for the rest of your skincare routine — a simple step that makes an impactful difference 3.) picking is completely understandable and often a coping mechanism to manage breakouts + the anxiety that comes with them. In the short term, it seems to help get rid of the acne, but in the long term, it can delay healing, cause more scarring, and be harder to cover up. Icing your face can help manage inflammation and offer a behavioral alternative, shifting that anxious energy into a more beneficial habit in line with your goals 4. Having a foundational routine that you KNOW works for your skin with a good cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF — one that you don’t need to worry about clogging your pores or irritating your skin, sets you up for success when you do begin to add in active ingredients (which can be drying and irritating in their own right). this also provides a framework to fall back on post treatment when your skin just needs the basics. 🐍🫶
