The economic business model of social media platforms (and much of big tech), is largely built on the misuse, theft & manipulation of our individual (personal) data. In 2022, data brokers made nearly $300,000,000,000 USD off of the third-party sales & transfers of this intellectual property—and chances are high that you didn’t see a single penny of that money. At the @higherpurposeco Men’s Entrepreneurship Summit on June 10, 2022, I spoke about the need to “BUILD OUR OWN” digital networks & infrastructure, around transparent & equitable principles—and imagined a world where this is possible. With the rise of AI and LLM’s, and an increasing awareness of big tech’s many abuses of our data & privacy, we must begin strongly considering what it looks like to not only leave these platforms, but how to thrive and succeed without them.
