Our first production showed us something we believed from the beginning: making art and being paid for your art shouldn’t be separate ideas. 🌀

Our initial run of FOOL FOR LOVE sold out, and the call for more was loud enough that we extended and doubled our run. By the end, nearly 400 people had come out to our little patch of the desert, and that support helped us put more than $8,250 directly into the hands of our core ensemble through our shared-revenue model. 💫 *And that number doesn’t include additional contracted creative work that was part of the show’s production expenses.*

We started The Karma Compound to make ambitious theatre in the Hi-Desert, create more opportunities for artists to be paid for their work, and build experiences that give people another reason to come together out here. Seeing that vision take shape with our very first production feels pretty damn good. 🪄🤩

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spread the word, and supported what we’re building. There is an audience for this work here, and we’re excited to keep creating reasons for people to come. 🙏

We love our Hi-Desert arts community! 🥹♥️🏜️

Last night, we closed FOOL FOR LOVE. 🔑

Thank you to every artist who threw their talent, sweat, and heart into it. Thank you to everyone who helped it all come together. And thank you to our Hi-Desert community for showing up, bringing your chairs, and meeting us out there in the dirt. 🙏

The magic of making something immersive is that the audience becomes part of it too. Each night was a shared experience, shaped by everyone who gathered there. 🪄♥️

Our first show. Definitely not our last.

Goodbye, FOOL FOR LOVE.
The end of this little world. We’ll carry it with us. 💫

I’ve been looking through my camera roll as we gear up for our encore performances of FOOL FOR LOVE. What a wild little chapter of my life this has been. 🤠🎢💫🎉

I’ve loved this show since I worked on a scene from it in undergrad, and getting to play May was something I was super excited about. But this became so much bigger than getting to do a play I love. ❤️

It was making theatre from scratch in the middle of a field. Outside a bar I already loved. With people I’ve grown to admire not only for their hearts and character, but for their raw talent, too. It was figuring things out as we went and trusting each other and the process. Watching this out-there idea I’d scribbled about in a notebook evolve and slowly come alive. 💥

And then suddenly there were people sitting out there in the field with us. Friends and family came. Strangers came. People drove a long way. People stayed afterward and told us what the show brought up for them. Some came back again. 🌀🙏

I wasn’t prepared for that kind of response. There’s something really moving about making something that means so much to you and then watching it mean something to other people too. 🥹

And now we get to live in this world we’ve all created together three more times. 🔑 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this. I can’t wait to share the stage with these performers a few more times, and to keep making a little theatrical desert magic alongside Christi, Vic, & Matt. 🪄

So if you’ve been telling me you want to come and haven’t made it out yet, this is my personal nudge. Come see this thing that has taken up such a huge piece of my heart these past few months. ✨

Three more nights.

MOTEL TAPES 03 🌀

Three more audiences.
Three more curtain calls.
THREE MORE NIGHTS at the motel before we close the door on FOOL FOR LOVE. 🔑🚪

We’re so grateful to Sandy Rogers, Sam Shepard’s sister and the singer-songwriter behind “Fool for Love” from the 1985 film, for coming out to the desert to see our show, and for sharing her music with us at The Palms! 🙏

The show is only part of what happens out there in the field. It’s also about the people who come, the people who stay, and everyone who meets us at the motel. It becomes a night we all step inside together. ❤️

Three more shows for us, but the loop goes on. 🌀

From the beginning, we wanted to make something that felt less like watching a play and more like stepping inside of one. 🌀

Into the heat, the repetition, the ghosts, and the patterns these characters can’t seem to outrun. 💔💫

Lette, Vic, & Michael talk about the vision behind our collaborative ensemble’s FOOL FOR LOVE, and what makes this production different and truly unique.

MOTEL TAPES 02 🌀

There was no theatre. No stage. Not even a motel.

Just a bar in Wonder Valley, a patch of desert behind it, and a group of people trying to figure out how to build a world out there. ✨

So we rehearsed in the dirt. We gathered and dragged out furniture and installed doors into the ground. We fell down, got back up, chased the heat and the wind, and learned pretty quickly that the desert was going to have ideas of its own. 💫

Somewhere along the way, it stopped feeling like we were putting FOOL FOR LOVE into this place, and it started feeling like it had always been there. 🗝️

Introducing MOTEL TAPES 🌀

We met filmmaker Grant Edwards at opening night of FOOL FOR LOVE. He came to see the show, then asked if he could come back with his camera. What came out of it is something pretty special, and maybe there’s even a little more ‘wonder’ still to come… 🪄

MOTEL TAPES is a series of little splices into the world of FOOL FOR LOVE, captured by Grant. 🎥

First up: a little preshow prep with Catt Christine. 🎶🎙️💋 Is she the ghost of May’s mother? The mysterious Countess? Or a figment of our desert fever dreams?? The lines get a little blurry out here…

Come out and spend one of our final nights with us at the motel, and draw your own conclusions. 🔑
