Massive thank you to the coaches and handlers for the opportunity and support.
It’s such an honour to represent GBR.

Welcome to our new monthly series where we take a look at the history of our powerlifting and weightlifting members to see what they love about training with the BGWLC family.

We’re kicking it all off with BG long-timer Thomas Celestin.

Not only has Tom racked up numerous records across his time in the sport, he has also spent nearly 30 years training at BGWLC.

Here’s to another 30 with us Tom!

💚 BGWLC on BBC London last night 💚

We were beyond grateful for @bbclondon coming down and sharing our story to the whole of London. We need our voice heard as we have been a cornerstone of UK and international strength sports for a century, all from our home in London.

Also! A huge thanks to our member Dayo for speaking so well on the issue.

The Bethnal Green Weightlifting Club has called this particular building home for nearly 100 years. Our preference, for the record, is for the gym to be retained, alongside the proposed social housing.

The planning application submitted by Tower Hamlets includes many mentions of reprovision, and frames them in language that reads as though contractually agreed.

They are not.

No site has been confirmed, no feasibility work completed, no lease terms agreed and no funding secured.

If this application is approved as submitted, there is nothing to prevent our club from being lost permanently.

We need YOUR help to object to this planning proposal as it is not providing a suitable alternative for us to continue serving the community from.

Details in the second slide, in our bio and in the highlight on our page.

WE HAVE 4 DAYS LEFT TO OBJECT

BGWLC at the European Powerlifting Federation, Masters Championship 2026 💚

Huge congratulations to all BGWLC athletes who competed at the European Masters in the last couple of weeks. We are all proud of what you have achieved and your excellent representation of team GB and team BGWLC.

Clifford "Mac" Macduff @mac_m3_93 Still only a couple of years into his powerlifting career and going strength to strength. Achieving at the highest levels and continuing to push and refine his lifting.

Thomas Celestin @thomas.celestin One of the very OG members of the gym. Grafting hard and at the top of his game for decades, and now continuing that into M2.

Diego Martinez-Rodney @diego3tl Another long-standing member of the gym, consistently putting in the work leading to his first international. Battling some difficult cards in the lead up and showing everyone how to perform anyway.

Reece Smith @reece_120kg A member for over a decade, inspiring all members of the gym with his energy and execution. An outstanding performance for his second masters international.

And a shout out of course to not only the Head Coach of BGWLC but also of GB Masters, @deadliftbig. Bringing home team medals across the board with the GB squad. Encouraging lifters at the highest levels to keep pushing themselves for ever-greater achievements.

We loved cheering you on, congratulations!
