This start line photo from the Deadly Dozen on Sunday is about as close to the finish as I actually got.

After spending much of 2026 on the road back from toe surgery and an Achilles injury, I finally felt like I was back. I had some of my best run sessions this year in the lead-up to this race, and the fitness was really coming back.

Then, at the end of the Farmers Carry, one unfortunate slip at an awkward angle put a stop to the rest of the race and my plans for the foreseeable future. I ruptured my Syndesmosis, which by all accounts is a pretty significant ankle injury 🤦‍♂️.

Since then I’ve been chasing answers with a couple of X-rays and an ultrasound. Next up is an MRI to work out the best path to recovery. 2026 has certainly handed me plenty of lemons on the physical side.

Huge thanks to Dave Cooper at Kinetics Physio, who’s been an absolute legend helping me figure this out so far🙏.

For now, it’s crutches and a moon boot and upper body weights.

📸 @beyond.cont and sorry I didn’t give you chance to get anymore photos @diegomalheiross 😂

Deadly Dozen Akl | 46:42 (4:10 PB)

Wet grass, a bit of wind and some grip issues made for an interesting one. Fell on my ass a few times during the burpees and transitions. Still got a solid PB under my belt.
Fitness and strength are improving which is awesome to see. Now it’s all eyes on Melbourne.

Big thanks @reelcreationsltd for the sick edit
