The world is longing for Ween more than ever. This photo captures Deaner and Gener's beauty from an unforgettable night in 2013 at the Fox in Oakland, CA. They rocked hard and seamlessly included bust-outs — Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s “Lucky Man.” Photo: AGJ

Michael Melchiondo Jr better known as Dean Ween was born on September 25, 1970. He is best known as the guitarist, singer and a founding member of the band Ween. In 1984, Melchiondo met Aaron Freeman in a junior high school typing class, in their hometown of New Hope, Pennsylvania. The two adopted the fictitious surname Ween after the demon-god Boognish appeared to them, with Melchiondo taking up the name Dean Ween and Freeman the name Gene Ween. Ween self-released several cassette albums from their formation until 1989. Afterward, they put out three officially-released lo-fi albums: GodWeenSatan: The Oneness ; The Pod and Pure Guava. In 1991, Dean Ween formed the punk rock duo Moistboyz with Guy Heller. Dean is an avid fisherman and in 2009, received his captain’s license and regularly leads fishing trips off the Jersey Shore as Mickey’s Guide Service. In 2012, in the wake of Ween’s breakup, Dean formed The Dean Ween Group. After a 28-year run, Gene Ween quit the band in 2012. Ween reformed in late 2015 and toured extensively without plans to record new material, but later entered an indefinite hiatus in 2024 citing Dean’s mental health as a reason. Here’s to the brilliant and incomparable Dean Ween. We love you! 👊🏾 #deanween

In keeping with the proud tradition of borrowing someone else's belongings to record Ween solos, I snuck into Deaner's bathroom and used all of his toiletries. It was the only way for this solo to be good. The crime makes this good.

“It’s water under the dam.”
~ David Lee Roth

Wednesday, September 2, 2026
Springwater Supper Club
Nashville, Tennessee

Dam, David! I never seen that kind of dam, where the water goes under it. Then again, we never seen a bunch of artists as unique as those at the Springwater, neither. This week everyone got 3 songs (if they wanted, some just did 2 by choice) and we had a nice mellow evening:

+ HIMBR Tribe gave us a sound bath from a little green drum

+ Karissa read a newly minted poem, circa THAT SAME DAY

+ Jake stopped in for a beer, ended up singing for everyone

+ Jon Lipshaw kept it super fresh with new songs and mad solos

+ John Allingham did more with a Baby Taylor than we could

+ The Lion dug into the deep cuts for a song about friendship

+ Kurt called his neighbor out for her dirty lawn mowing

+ James Brown Band talks to angels, calls them out by name

+ Theory Of Everything did a new one, and also the hits

+ Mitchell proved all those years in seminary are paying off

+ Loose Bolts did a new one, too! And stroked some Strokes

+ Beaux had an “A-Ha” moment, and so we all had one, too

+ Mean Dean got everyone screaming “Tequila!” together

+ Russell just wants a good nut tonight! Truly cutting edge

+ Bill revisited his ode to Matthew Modine, Modiiine!

+ Instead of singing our weird host just gave stuff away

+ Kon The Tragic cheated one of our performers out of $0.25

A Wednesday welcome to our nifty newcomer Jake Rowe, welcome back to the returning champions (see Notebook Of Infamy photo for names), and see you all next Wednesday.

Ween is easily My all time favorite band and this shirt was the shirt I got at my very first show at The Met in Philly on 12/10/2021 when I was 14 years old. I’ll never in my entire lifetime will ever forget that show they played for like 3 fucking hours and with no breaks whatsoever. One thing I’ll never forget is before the show me, my parents and some of my dad‘s friends all went out to eat at this bar and while we were eating, I literally got to witness my very first bar fight. Then later that night at the show, some chick flashed her boobs to Deaner when he shredding. Truly a night I will never ever forget and am so fucking happy I got to see these guys live at least once in my life.
this band has literally gotten me through the absolute darkest times in my entire life and genuinely if it wasn’t for this band I would’ve been dead a long time ago. I hope they come back someday. #ween #weenvintage #themollusk #deanween #geneween @weeninfo @dean_ween_official @flydoodmang

WEEN / Quebec
Promo 7’
A. Tried and True
B. Mountains and Buffalo

Originally given out as a promo with the release of Quebec. Mountains and Buffalo not included on the main album.. a fun one to own if you collect all things Ween, which I don’t… but I don’t mind having.
