POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The MMIW crisis doesn’t just stop on May 5th when we bring awareness to it. It is a constant, ongoing crisis that Indigenous families live with every single day.

Some updated information for you:

In 2025 alone, the FBI recorded 5,303 missing-person entries involving American Indian and Alaska Native females. More than 3,800 involved girls under the age of 18, and 564 Native women and girls were still actively listed as missing at the end of the year.

And even those numbers don’t tell the full story. Reporting gaps, misclassification, and missing cases that never make it into national databases mean the true scope is still difficult to measure.

MMIW is not one awareness day. It is not a statistic. It is mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and entire communities still waiting for answers.

Keep saying their names. Keep sharing their stories. Keep bringing them home. 🪶

Today this guy attended the Veterans ceremony and then came to get his kidney removed. Without hesitation always being responsible. With all my heart ♥️ I send all my love 😍 to this man. Please flood us with prayers. Love Susan

“WE ARE DAUGHTERS, SISTERS, MOTHERS, COUSINS, FRIENDS.

WE LAUGHED UNDER THE SAME SKY,
WHISPERED DREAMS TO THE STARS,
AND CARRIED NAMES ROOTED DEEP IN LANGUAGES OLDER THAN MOUNTAINS.

AND THEN, ONE DAY—
WE WERE GONE.

SOME OF US VANISHED ON HIGHWAYS THAT CUT THROUGH RESERVATIONS LIKE SCARS. OTHERS OF US WERE LAST SEEN AT BUS STOPS, PARKING LOTS, AND SHELTERS. AND MANY OF US...MANY OF US WERE NEVER SEARCHED FOR AT ALL. AUTHORITIES SHRUGGED, AND FILES MISPLACED.

BUT WE KNEW BETTER.

WE KNOW THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE.
WE KNOW THE RED DRESSES THAT HANG IN THE WIND LIKE SPIRITS CALLING TO BE REMEMBERED.
WE KNOW THE MOTHERS WHO DON’T SLEEP, WHO’S PRAYERS TRAVEL TO THE PLACE WHERE THEIR DAUGHTERS NOW REST.
WE KNOW THE ACHING ECHO OF NAMES THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN.

THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE PAST.
IT’S ABOUT A PRESENT STILL SOAKED IN INJUSTICE—WHERE INDIGENOUS WOMEN ARE 10 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE MURDERED THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE.
WHERE CASES GO COLD BEFORE THEY ARE EVER TRULY OPENED.
WHERE JURISDICTIONAL LOOPHOLES SWALLOW THE TRUTH.
AND SOVEREIGNTY IS DISMISSED.

BUT WE ARE NOT STATISTICS.
WE ARE STORIES.
AND WE DESERVE TO BE TOLD.

WE WEAR RED NOT BECAUSE IT IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT BECAUSE IT BLEEDS.
BECAUSE WE REFUSE TO BE ERASED.
WE SPEAK THEIR NAMES.

TO THE ONES WHO NEVER CAME HOME:
WE SEE YOU,
AND CARRY YOU FORWARD IN EVERY STEP,
AND EVERY VOICE THAT REFUSES TO BE SILENCED.

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN,
WE REMEMBER YOU.”

I normally would be celebrating Cinco de Mayo, but this year, May 5th. I want to recognize a very important movement. Missing Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) these nation of women have been under attack with little care or awareness, Too many for too long. No more! I stand in solidarity with my sisters. I wear red paint across my face to symbolize the connection between the physical world and the spiritual world. Native Americans believe that the dead can see red. Stand with us, by wearing red. We invoke the help of our ancestors and spiritual guides to bring our sisters home. - Deana Abrego Borja
