Hike 3 of 52 in 52 for 2026.
Done. 🥰

It was 32° and I didn’t have much time, but this body's been telling me all week it needed to move and so I made a plan to gift it a quick "hike" today.

With less then 40 minutes before I had to get back on the road, I hit two miles exactly and moved at one of the quickest paces I’ve done in a while.

I’ve only been to Queeny Park one other time to hike. Growing up, I did spend time at the playground in the park because my grandparents lived in one of the neighborhoods practically across the street. Driving past the playground today gave me pause because they've completely updated it, which took away so.e of the nostalgia of it I have to admit.

Queeny Park is larger than most people realize. I was surprised to learn that it spans more than five hundred acres. It was once the private estate of Edgar M. Queeny before becoming a St. Louis County park in the early 1970s. There are several miles of trails throughout the park, along with ponds, open green space, and wooded areas. Even though it sits in the middle of a busy part of the county, once you’re on the trails the road noise fades more than you’d expect.

Today’s hike was a quick, thrown-together route to fit my schedule. I’m looking forward to going back when I have more time and walking the full 4-mile trail.

Hike 2 of 52! Don Robinson never disappoints! I love this park and both of its trails. I had heard they had put up tape banning people from going through the canyon, so I was overjoyed to find out it had been removed (if it was indeed there at one point).

While there were a lot of down trees - and it takes some experienced navigating - it is by far such an amazing part of the trail.

I was, however, disappointed at the number of poo bags on the side of the trail. So annoying,

But I didn't let it dampen my spirits for too long, because who gets a 60+ degree day in January in Missouri and spends any of it frustrated?

Not this girl!

Hike the Sandstone Canyon Trail. You'll be glad you did!

Part 17 has me tackling MO’s table makeover. First, I scraped off years of layered, peeling paint from around the trim after giving it a deep clean. Then came the fun part... Spraying the sides, bottom, and legs in a glossy black. I tested a bold red spray for the top, but decided in the end that contact paper would give it a cleaner, fresher look for now.

Eventually, we’ll replace the tabletop since it has some scratches and water damage, but this quick refresh makes such a difference already.

Honestly, as much work as it all is, I’m loving every step of this Camper Chronicles journey. It’s so rewarding to bring new life into something that’s been around for 33 years.

What do you think of the table’s new look?

Part 16 of MO's #CamperChronicles had us tackling MO’s awning for the first time. We weren’t sure what kind of shape it would be in, but to our surprise, it was actually in decent condition. The tricky part was figuring out how to put it all together, since there were no instructions online or in the manual. With a pile of poles in front of us, it was like solving a giant puzzle.

Not surprising was the fact that @chrisley.stl figured it out and got the awning up, but we quickly realized the real problem was the center pole. Someone had cut it at some point, and it just didn’t provide the stability it needed. A few days later, Chris put his skills to work and frankensteined different parts together to create a new center pole that works super well. It was one of those “make it work” moments that ended up being a total win.

Here’s are two tip for fellow camper owners - Always make sure your canvas and awning are completely dry before storing them. Mold and mildew can take hold fast, and once it does, it’s a headache to fix. We’ve also found it easiest to unzip the awning before you pop the camper up, and then finish setting it up once everything is open. Both will save you some time and frustration.
